If Favre were to play at a high level this year, Packer fans and a large amount of NFL fans will forgive him by game one. I don't really blame Favre. I'm sure getting ready to play gets harder as he gets older, but his competitive nature makes it hard to walk away. The quality that has made him great is what is making him conflicted now. If I'm a Packer fan, then I'm praying Favre comes back and Thompson trades for Jason Taylor. Take a shot at the Super Bowl while the window is cracked open. </div> I think in Football, receivers/etc. have a harder time building chemistry with their QB compared to how players interact with each other in basketball. That's why it seems more important. Also, Jordan did retire for a few seasons at least after every "post-conference". It wasn't just some spectacle.
It's all just rumors and speculation. Someone probably overheard him say "I want to return this to Wal-Mart" and ran to phone after hearing "I want to return..." If he wants to play this season, he should ask the Packers for his release. There are plenty of teams who would give him the chance to play this year. Coming back doesn't necessarily mean coming back to Green Bay.

We went through that stage for the past 4-5 years. He's officially retired: we had the crying press conference and everything, so its about as official as you can get. I'll take back all this if its just the media cooking up crap during the slow part of the offseason, but right now I'm assuming this is just Favre being an attention-whore. And its annoying as hell.

Even his relatives have said it's 50-50 on whether he'll come back or not.
