FC Dallas Remains Perfect at Home with 2-0 Win over Real Salt Lake

FC Dallas (3-1-0, 9 points) won its third straight match at home, 2-0, over Real Salt Lake tonight at FC Dallas Stadium.

FC Dallas' Jackson assisted on Fabain Castillo's goal in the 71st minute before scoring one of his own in the 81st minute to earn Budweiser Man of the Match honors. In goal, Chris Seitz made four saves to pick up his first shutout since Aug. 29, 2009.

Making his first start since forgoing the final months of his 2012 season to donate bone marrow, Seitz was called upon in just the 13th minute. The play began with Real Salt Lake forward Joao Plata beating out his defender to retrieve a ball played over the top of the FC Dallas backline. Plata gained control of the ball well inside the area, off to the left side of Seitz and attempted to pass to Luis Gil at the back post. The ball made it to Gil, but was off target just enough to allow Seitz to make a sliding save to deny Salt Lake of an early lead.

FC Dallas countered in the 22nd minute with a combination play involving the majority of the team's attacking players. Castillo started the assault by finding Kenny Cooper on the left flank. Cooper knocked a pass inside to Jackson, who managed to slip a ball outside to late-arriving defender Zach Loyd. Loyd showed shot but instead slotted a ball back inside for Cooper, who put a ball towards goal with his first touch. Fortunately for Real Salt Lake, defender Nat Borchers stayed home and managed to save Cooper's attempt from crossing the goal line with a last-ditch slide tackle before the ball barely missed the crossbar on its way out of play.

Following a scoreless first half, FC Dallas center back George John tested Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Josh Saunders in the 51st minute. Castillo, once gain, initiated the chance. This time Castillo earned FC Dallas a free kick 45 yards from goal. David Ferreira stepped to the set piece and put a ball into the path of John, who snapped a header towards goal only to fire the ball directly at Saunders.

Jackson played the role of creator on FC Dallas' goal in the 71st minute. The Brazilian received the ball on the right flank and switched the point of attack with a 40-yard pass to Castillo on the left flank. Isolated against his defender, Castillo beat his marker with a right-to-left move before hammering a shot over Saunders' head and into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Real Salt Lake fought to even the score and nearly did in the 77th minute when right midfielder Ned Grabavoy found Robbie Findley running across the top of the box. Findley managed to pull Seitz off his line and nearly beat him to the back post, but the 6-3 goalkeeper got his left hand to the shot, killing the ball at the top of the six-yard box. Salt Lake forward Devon Sandoval was first to the loose ball, hitting a first-touch strike towards goal, but second-year defender Matt Hedges arrived a half-second later to knock the ball away and save a sure goal.

FC Dallas' second goal came off a defensive miscue by Salt Lake in the 81st minute. Jackson was there to take advantage, stealing a ball off the foot of Saunders with a slide-tackle that sent the ball rolling slowly over the goal line

    Late Goal Downs Revs

FC Dallas forward Blas Perez came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in the 87th minute and send the New England Revolution to a 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs (1-2-1, 4 pts.) appeared to be on their way to a second consecutive scoreless draw until Perez struck late, latching onto David Ferreira's delicate chip and guiding a header off the far post and into the net.

FC Dallas (4-1-0, 12 pts.) remains atop the Western Conference standings with the victory, while the Revs have now been shut out in three consecutive matches since opening the season with a win in Chicago.

After using a single striker in the first three games, Jay Heaps opted to deploy a more traditional two-forward setup against Dallas. Jerry Bengtson returned from international duty to regain his starting spot and was partnered up top by Ryan Guy, making his first start of the season.

The visitors generated the first serious chance in the 14th minute when Kenny Cooper's low cross flashed across the face of goal, but Jackson narrowly missed connecting after escaping to the back post.

Diego ***undez - making his first start of the season on the left wing - had the Revolution's best chance of the first half in the 34th minute when his low effort from 20 yards was hit straight at FCD goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.

Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth - starting in place of the injured Matt Reis - came up with a huge save in the 40th minute, rushing off his line to stifle Ferreira's close-range blast.

The Revs started the second half brightly and Bengtson went close in the 58th minute when his looping header from Juan Toja's cross was tipped over the crossbar by Fernandez.

Cooper found the back of the net for FC Dallas in the 63rd minute when he flicked a header past Shuttleworth, but the goal was waved off as the flag went up for offside. Three minutes later George John's header appeared goal-bound until Lee Nguyen - positioned on the post during a corner kick - cleared it off the line.

The game continued to open up for both sides and at the other end of the field Kevin Alston broke into the box all alone in the 69th minute only for Fernandez to make a sprawling save low to his left. Fernandez came up big again in the 80th minute, smothering Toja's shot from inside the six.

The sides appeared destined to finish goalless, but Perez ensured the visitors left Foxborough with all three points when he struck three minutes from time.

The Revs have a bye on the schedule next weekend and won't return to action until Saturday, April 13, when they'll travel cross-country to visit Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.

    Unbeaten streak ends

MLS points leaders FC Dallas made an early season statement to the rest of the league by defeating the previously unbeaten LA Galaxy 1-0 at FC Dallas Stadium on Saturday night.

As has become the norm for FC Dallas matches, the excitement came late as defender George John scored off a rebound when Eric Hassli's header hit the crossbar in the 87th minute. It was the 10th goal in the last 15 minutes of an FC Dallas match this season (four scored by Dallas, six by their opponents).

With both teams cancelling each other out in the first half (neither team had a shot on target), the match took a decisive turn in the 60th minute when LA defender Leonardo was shown red for taking down Dallas forward Blas Perez in the box. On the ensuing PK, Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini guessed correctly and saved Kenny Cooper's attempt from the spot.

Minutes later, the 10-man Galaxy earned a penalty of their own when John tripped up LA forward Jose Villarreal in the opposite box. LA captain Landon Donovan stepped up to take the PK only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, who dove to his left to make the stop.

Fernandez's save set up John's late heroics, although his game-winning header was marred by a projectile thrown by FC Dallas supporters which struck the defender in the head and left him on the ground during the minutes immediately following his strike.

The clean sheet was the fourth of the season for FC Dallas, who continued a trend of defensive dominance, especially in the first half of matches. Dallas has now shut out their opponents in the first half of all seven matches this season.

While the home team fielded the same lineup that drew 2-2 in Toronto last weekend, the Galaxy welcomed Donovan into the starting lineup for the first time during the MLS regular season, while rookie left back Greg Cochrane, a second-round selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, made his first career start.

Both teams will a enjoy a week of home cooking as FC Dallas plays the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday evening at FC Dallas Stadium (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS LIVE) while the Galaxy take on Sporting KC at The Home Depot Center in another nationally televised match on NBC Sports Network (10:30 p.m. ET/ 7:30 p.m. PT).

FC Dallas Continues to Dominate at Home, Knocks off Vancouver, 2-0

FC Dallas (6-1-1, 19 points) scored in each half and picked up its fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at FC Dallas Stadium tonight.

By the 16th minute, FC Dallas already had three chances to take the lead narrowly miss the mark.

The first opportunity came in just the second minute, when Blas Perez intercepted a clearance attempt from a Whitecaps FC defender and cracked a shot on goal with his first touch. The shot forced goalkeeper Joe Cannon to make a diving save to his right side.

It was Kenny Cooper's turn in the 11th minute, when defender Zach Loyd knocked a lead pass into space for the forward. Cooper also utilized his first touch, sending a rocket shot at Cannon from the top right corner of the area. Vancouver's goalkeeper stood his ground and managed to get a finger to the knuckling ball, pushing the shot just over the crossbar.

FC Dallas' best opportunity came in the 16th minute. Jackson received a pass on the right flank and bent a perfect cross in to the head of Perez. The Panamanian striker did all he could to score, redirecting a hard shot on goal with his forehead, but the chance was directly at Cannon, who punched the ball away to keep the match scoreless.

Cannon was finally beaten in the 29th minute following an FC Dallas corner kick taken by David Ferreira. The former MLS MVP swung a pass into the near post where defender Matt Hedges was making his run. Hedges fooled the Whitecaps FC defense by jumping out of the way at the last second and allowing the ball to run through the area. The ball bounced inside the six-yard box before striking Vancouver's Brad Rusin in the back and ricocheting across the goal line to give FC Dallas the first goal of the game for the eighth-straight match.

Vancouver's best opportunity to equalize came in the 41st minute. Nigel Reo-Coker received a pass just inside the left corner of the area and sent a bending cross to the back post. FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez was able to get a hand to the shot, but was not able to avoid giving up a rebound. Vancouver's Matt Watson was first to the loose ball and looked to have scored easily until defender George John made a goal-saving slide tackle to knock the ball wide of the goal.

The slide-tackle from John improved FC Dallas' streak of first-half shutouts to a perfect eight-for-eight this season.

FC Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute on a goal scored by Perez. The play began when a shot attempt by defender Jair Benitez was blocked. This time, it was Cooper who was first to the loose ball. The forward once again ripped a shot towards goal with his first touch. As the ball crossed into the area, it struck a Vancouver defender in the leg, redirecting into the path of Perez, who finished his third goal of the season with a simple header.

Vancouver nearly cut the two-goal deficit in half in the 82nd minute after earning a free kick just outside the area. Second-half substitute Camilo Sanvezzo opted to take the kick, bending a hard shot around the wall and at the back post. The ball swerved hard to its left after passing by the wall, just missing the left post behind Fernandez.

FC Dallas Remains Unbeaten at Home

FC Dallas (6-1-3, 21 points) maintained its six-point lead over the rest of the Western Conference with a 1-1 draw against Portland tonight at FC Dallas Stadium.

Forward Kenny Cooper scored FC Dallas' lone goal in the 77th minute. Portland's goal was scored by Darlington Nagbe in the 70th minute.

FC Dallas is back in action again this Saturday, May 11 against D.C. United (1-7-1, 4 points) at FC Dallas Stadium.

FC Dallas nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Zach Loyd came forward from his spot at right back and bent a cross to the back post. Blas Perez was there to win the ball, knocking it backwards for David Ferreira to finish, but the former league MVP's first-touch volley attempt went just over the bar, keeping the match tied.

Portland countered and quickly earned a corner kick but FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez easily gobbled up the loose ball after it deflected off a pack of players at the top of the six-yard box.

Fernandez was called upon again in the 17th minute. The Peruvian tracked a cross from Kalif Alhassan right-to-left and arrived just in time to steal a goal off the foot of Diego Valeri at the far post.

Just two minutes later, Fernandez made yet another incredible save on Portland forward Frederic Piquionne. The 6-2 forward timed his run perfectly and got in-behind the FC Dallas defense. Portland midfielder Diego Chara played a perfect through ball from midfield to put Piquionne in on the breakaway but Loyd made a recovery run to push him away from the center of the pitch while Fernandez came off his line to cut down on the forward's shooting angle. Every inch counted as Piquionne's hard shot to Fernandez's right side was partially blocked by the goalkeeper and struck the near post before being cleared away by the FC Dallas defense.

The save prolonged FC Dallas' streak of first-half shutouts to 10 games.

FC Dallas controlled possession of the ball coming out after halftime and nearly found the back of the net in the 49th minute, when Fabian Castillo won control in midfield and played a ball into space for Perez. The Panamanian chased the ball down and got off a sliding shot attempt only to have Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts make a nice save to his right side.

Shortly after, FC Dallas was forced to make a change when Ferreira pulled up with an injury in the 54th minute. Forward Eric Hassli took his place, shifting FC Dallas into a 4-4-2 formation.

Castillo continued to trouble Portland defenders through midfield and on the left flank. He set up a Cooper header from point-blank range in the 65th minute but Ricketts was once again equal to that attempt. Castillo also freed up Michel, who sent in a cross to Perez in the 68th minute. Perez's header was nearly perfect. The shot beat Ricketts to his right side before caroming off the post.

Portland found the back of the net first, in the 70th minute, when Rodney Wallace, who was running right-to-left across the top of the area, chipped a ball against the grain to the back post. Once again, Fernandez did well to track the ball but Darlington Nagbe's first touch volley powered its way past the goalkeeper to give Timbers FC a 1-0 lead.

FC Dallas answered, tying the game, 1-1, via its first converted penalty kick attempt of the season in the 77th minute. Referee Juan Guzman awarded the penalty after Perez was fouled by Portland defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste, away from the ball. Cooper stepped to the spot and struck a hard shot to Ricketts' right side to knot the game.

FC Dallas Ties Longest Home Unbeaten Streak in Franchise History with 1-0 Win

FC Dallas (8-2-3, 27 points) extended its home unbeaten streak to 12 games on the strength of a Fabian Castillo goal scored in the 33rd minute and six saves by goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, tonight at FC Dallas Stadium.

Castillo's counter-attack goal began with rookie Walker Zimmerman clearing the ball out of FC Dallas' penalty area with a header. Former MLS MVP David Ferreira collected the ball 30-yards from Dallas' goal, beat one defender and cut across the midfield line in a footrace with San Jose midfielder Adam Jahn. Ferreira carried the ball to within 30 yards of San Jose's goal before slipping a pass to the right side for Castillo. The speedy Colombian cut left, inside San Jose defender Jason Hernandez with his first touch, and slotted a low shot just inside the far post to give Dallas the lead.

San Jose came within inches of drawing level in the 41st minute when defender Victor Bernardez cracked the crossbar from just outside the area. The shot followed a punch-save by Fernandez on a header by Alan Gordon. The Peruvian sprinted off his line to clear the shot out of the six-yard box only to see the rebound fall directly to Bernardez, who volleyed the ball off the crossbar with his first touch.

Ferreira and Castillo nearly combined to score again in the 53rd minute. Castillo won the ball on the left flank and played a long give-and-go with Ferreira that resulted in a break-away attempt. Castillo tried to beat San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch with a hard shot from close range, but the veteran came off his line to deny the youngster of his second goal of the match.

San Jose forced Fernandez to make four saves between the 78th and 84th minutes. The first was a diving save to his right side to knock away a long-range effort by second-half substitute Shea Salinas. The third was Fernandez's best of the night. Once again it was Salinas who caused FC Dallas trouble by getting the ball to the end line and chipping a cross to the back post for Wondolowski. Fernandez tracked the ball post-to-post and was in perfect position to fight off a full-volley attempt from the two-time Golden Boot winner.

Fernandez capped his fifth shutout of the season with his sixth save of the game. A diving save to his right side, Fernandez once again denied Wondolowski off a goal via header. The shot was expertly placed, low to the post in the first minute of stoppage-time.

FC Dallas Remains Unbeaten at Home with 2-2 Draw

FC Dallas (8-3-5, 29 points) got late goals from Andrew Jacobson and rookie Walker Zimmerman to draw, 2-2, against Sporting Kansas City (6-5-5, 23 points) tonight at FC Dallas Stadium.

The tie extended FC Dallas' franchise-best home unbeaten streak to 13 matches.

The game began with Dallas on the attack. The home team tested Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen twice between the 11th and 13th minute. The first attempt came from the foot of left back Michel, who bent a free kick attempt from 25 yards out to the opposite corner of the goal. Nielsen jumped and caught enough of the shot to tip it over the crossbar and out for a corner kick.

Two minutes later, FC Dallas' right back Zach Loyd moved up the flank and delivered a perfect cross to the head of striker Kenny Cooper. Cooper timed his run well to get in behind the Kansas City defense and caught the service from Loyd with a diving header to the near post. The header beat Nielsen, but caught too much of the left post and was hurriedly cleared away from danger by the Sporting KC defense.

FC Dallas cracked the woodwork again in the 27th minute on a set piece delivered by David Ferreira. From 40 yards out, Ferreira lobbed a ball to the top of the six-yard box where Je-Vaughn Watson grazed the ball with his head. The touch was enough to get the ball beyond the reach of Nielsen, but once again, the ball hit the post. This time Chance Myers recovered in time to clear the ball off the line and preserve the shutout.

Sporting Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute on a penalty kick converted by midfielder Kei Kamara. Referee Mark Geiger pointed to the spot after Andrew Jacobson came together with Aurelien Collin in the box following a free kick that was served into the area by Graham Zusi from near midfield. Kamara walked to the ball before hitting a hard shot, high to the left corner of the goal to give Kansas City the lead just before halftime.

Following halftime, Sporting Kansas City gained a 2-0 advantage in the 58th minute after Zusi delivered a dangerous ball into the area via corner kick and FC Dallas midfielder Watson accidently redirected the ball into his own net.

FC Dallas nearly got a goal back in the 65th minute, when Ferreira played Cooper into space. Cooper caught up to the ball, 30 yards from goal, slightly off to the left side of Nielsen's goal and fired a hard shot, high towards the back post. Fortunately for Kansas City, Nielsen was on his game and came through with a diving save to his left to keep the clean sheet.

Three minutes later, Sporting was not so lucky as Geiger ejected C.J. Sapong from the match after the midfielder kicked a ball at Jacobson as he was down on the ground following the play. The call gave FC Dallas a one-man advantage for the remainder of the match.

Despite playing 11 versus 10 for 22 minutes, FC Dallas appeared to be heading towards its first loss at FC Dallas Stadium in 13 matches, but Jacobson ignited the comeback in the 88th minute by chipping a header over the hands of Neilson. The play began with Cooper getting the ball wide to second-half substitute Ramon Nunez. The Honduran midfielder served a ball into the area for Jacobson, who rose above his marker to knock a header into the far side-netting.

Still pressing for an equalizer, FC Dallas' prayers were answered in stoppage-time, after Loyd earned a free kick five steps away from the corner flag on Kansas City's right flank. Ferreira stepped to the free kick, driving a ball across the face of goal to Zimmerman, who hammered home a sharp header to knot the score, 2-2.

The timely goal was a historic one for Dallas - the 800th in franchise history. The goal also made Zimmerman the 1,000th player to score in the MLS regular season.

FC Dallas Draws Chivas USA 0-0 in Front of Sold-Out Home Crowd

FC Dallas (8-3-7, 31 points) played Chivas USA to a 0-0 draw Thursday night in front of 22,035 fans, the third-largest MLS regular season crowd in FC Dallas Stadium history.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez made seven saves to post his sixth shutout of the season.

FC Dallas opened the match with three solid scoring chances inside the first 11 minutes. The first came from Jair Benitez off a short corner in the fifth minute. Benitez accepted a pass from David Ferreira before lobbing a ball into the area. Stephen Keel, who was making his first start of the season at center back, was there to win the header, but pushed it just wide of the right post behind Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

Michel nearly scored his second goal of the season via a free kick in the ninth minute after Blas Perez won the opportunity for Dallas. The Brazilian curled a shot around the wall from 23 yards, only to have his shot crack the outside of the right post before crossing the end line for a goal kick.

The third chance came in the 11th minute after Jackson turned his defender and dished a pass to Andrew Jacobson, who was streaking through the center of the pitch. Jacobson dribbled towards the end line before centering a pass to Perez at the top of the six-yard box. Perez couldn't control the pass, but the loose ball fell to the feet of Ferreira, who sent a hurried shot just wide of the post.

Chivas USA nearly found the back of the net in the 37th minute following a short corner of its own. Jorge Villafana took the ball and walked down the end line before delivering an out-swinging serve to the top of the six-yard box. A group of players came together there before Marky Delgado got a foot to the loose ball and hit a pass backwards with his heel to forward Jose Correa. The Colombian forward turned with the ball and hit a shot, low towards the right post, missing the target by mere inches.

FC Dallas just missed taking a 1-0 lead in the 85th minute. The play began with a long free kick played in from near midfield by Michel. Ferreira brought down the pass at the back post and knocked a ball back across the goalmouth to Jackson. The Brazilian rose above his defender to win the header but pushed it just wide of the post.

Less than a minute later, Benitez came forward from his spot at left back and crossed a ball into area for Perez from the left flank. Perez timed his run perfectly and hammered a textbook header down at Kennedy, but the MLS veteran stood tall and made a diving save on the goal line to keep the shutout.

However, it was Fernandez who made the save of the night in stoppage time. Chivas USA forward Julio Morales brought down the ball at the top of the area, turned his defender and hit a left-footed blast towards the right post. The Peruvian goalkeeper dove, high to his right side, to tip the shot over the bar and extend Dallas' home-unbeaten streak to 14 matches (9-0-5).

    Eric Hassli suspended one game

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended FC Dallas forward Eric Hassli for one game and fined him for violent conduct in a game at Montreal.

FC Dallas Scores Two Late Goals to Down Vancouver, 3-1

FC Dallas (10-7-10, 40 points) vaulted back into the Western Conference playoff picture with a clutch 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC at FC Dallas Stadium tonight.

FC Dallas came close to taking a one-goal lead in the first minute of the match when right back Kellyn Acosta played a ball forward to Jackson, who started the match at forward due to the absence of Panamanian international Blas Perez. Jackson went by his marker to the end line before knocking a pass backward to David Ferreira, but the Colombian's first-time shot was well high of the crossbar behind Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted.

Just three minutes later, Whitecaps FC finished its first shot of the game when Camilo found Kenny Miller in space deep down Vancouver's right flank. Miller took a touch before centering a pass for Daigo Kobayashi. The Japanese midfielder timed his run perfectly to meet the pass at the top of the six-yard box and redirect a shot to the back post, beyond the reach of FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz.

FC Dallas answered in the eighth minute when Fabian Castillo pushed a simple pass out wide to Je-Vaughn Watson. The Jamaican took a touch from two yards outside the area before launching a line-drive shot at the near post. The rising blast ducked just under the crossbar to level the score, 1-1.

The home side controlled possession throughout the evening, ending the match with a 62/38 edge, but it took until the 87th minute for FC Dallas to break through. The play began with substitute Eric Hassli recovering a loose ball in Vancouver territory and slipping a pass down the left flank for Castillo. The Colombian sped into the box before chipping a pass to the back post. Arriving at the perfect time, Diaz hammered a full volley over Ousted's head to win the game.

Left back Jair Benitez scored a late insurance goal for FC Dallas in spectacular fashion. Dribbling up the left flank, just past the midway line, Benitez spotted Ousted off his line and drove a left-footed shot into the far side netting from 50 yards out to make the final tally, 3-1.

    Disappointment

and another big hole prove too much for FC Dallas

FRISCO, Texas – With their 3-2 loss to the Chicago Fire on Saturday night, FC Dallas were officially eliminated from contention for the 2013 MLS Cup playoffs. FCD led the league in points as recently as mid-June, so the finality of falling so far as to miss the postseason hit the team hard in a very somber locker room.

“We had such a wonderful start, one of the best starts in the history of the franchise, and then things just didn’t click for us for whatever reason,” coach Schellas Hyndman told reporters after the match. “We were scoring a lot of goals early, a lot of them on set pieces, and then when things started getting really difficult, we took our foot off the pedal and we got a little bit complacent

    Stepping down
Hyndman to resign at conclusion of 2013 season

FRISCO, Texas – Schellas Hyndman announced today that he plans to step down as head coach of FC Dallas at the end of the 2013 season. Hyndman joined the club in 2008, and led FC Dallas to its only MLS Cup appearance in 2010. His 244 career points as a head coach are the most in FC Dallas history.

“I truly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the FC Dallas family for the last five years,” Hyndman said. “After a lot of thought and consideration, I feel the time is right for me to step down as head coach of FC Dallas. I want to thank the Hunt family for their support and friendship, our players, coaches and front office for their dedication and effort during my time here, and especially the great FC Dallas fans.”

FC Dallas Shuts out Seattle Sounders FC, 2-0

FC Dallas (11-11-11, 44 points) defeated Seattle Sounders FC (15-12-6, 51 points), 2-0, at Toyota Stadium this afternoon.

Defenders Matt Hedges and Michel scored in the victory, which was the final home match of the season for FC Dallas and the final home match for head coach Schellas Hyndman, who announced yesterday that he would be stepping down at the end of the season. FC Dallas travels to San Jose next weekend to take on the Earthquakes in its final match of the 2013 season.

FC Dallas had a chance to go ahead snuffed out by Seattle Sounders FC Homegrown player DeAndre Yedlin in the 31st minute. The play began with a sharp pass to Jackson in the center of the pitch by one of FC Dallas' Homegrown players, Kellyn Acosta. Jackson turned with the ball and picked out Fabian Castillo at the top of the area. The young Colombian beat his defender with a crafty move to his left side, which opened space for left back Jair Benitez to advance down the left sideline. Benitez turned towards goal at the end line and attempted to pick out a runner at the near post, but his low cross was ushered away from danger by Yedlin.

Dallas had two more chances put out by Seattle in the waning minutes of the first half. Peter Luccin set up the first for Andrew Jacobson, when he sent a simple pass through a pair of Sounders FC defenders. Jacobson turned with the ball with room in front of him and fired a rocket at Seattle goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann. Unfortunately for Dallas, the line-drive shot was directly at Hahnemann and the veteran goalkeeper punched the ball away.

Seconds later, Castillo stole the ball back for Dallas and ran at goal. Near the top of the area, Castillo completed a one-two with David Ferreira, collected the return pass with his chest and struck a half-volley towards goal. Once again Hahnemann was in perfect position to keep the match scoreless, the 6-3 goalkeeper got just enough of the shot to push it wide of the right post.

Brad Evans nearly put Seattle ahead just six minutes into the second half. Yedlin came free down the right flank and served a ball to the back post, where Evans had slipped in behind the Dallas defense. Unmarked, Evans tried to hit the ball out of the air with his first touch but got too far underneath the ball, sending it well over the crossbar.

FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute on a goal scored by Matt Hedges. The FC Dallas center back came forward during a set piece opportunity earned by Castillo 12 yards outside the top right corner of the area. The kick was bent to the back post by Michel, who had entered the match only seven minutes prior. Hedges rose above his defender to win the ball. The UNC product nodded a textbook header down into the ground. The ball bounced to the right of Hahnemann before settling into the back of the net.

Hedges made another important play on the defensive side of the ball in the 78th minute. Seattle's Lamar Neagle received a pass on the left sideline and crossed a ball to the back post for David Estrada. Estrada's header eluded FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz, but Hedges had tracked back to the goal line and kept Sounders FC out of the back of the net with a diving header.

FC Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the 87th minute when Ferreira took a shot from outside the area that was deflected by Sounders FC center back Jhon Kennedy Hurtado. The ball fell directly to the feet of Michel, who knocked a short pass into the back of the net.

Seitz was called upon to make one final save of the afternoon. The FC Dallas goalkeeper charged off his line to take the ball away from Clint Dempsey, who was on a breakaway in the 89th minute. The shutout was the second of the year for Seitz and the third of his career.

    Oscar Pareja named FC Dallas head coach;
Colorado Rapids receive 2015 draft pick, allocation money

After weeks of speculation that Colorado Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja was out the door, the news became official Friday. And he's moving right into his next coaching role.

Pareja will become the next head coach of FC Dallas, both clubs confirmed in statements. In exchange for leaving his contract with Colorado, Dallas agreed to a contract buyout in addition to a 2015 first-round MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money.

The 45-year-old Pareja spent two seasons at the Rapids, compiling a regular-season record of 25-30-13 and helping the club reach the postseason in 2013 after finishing fifth in the Western Conference. He spent the final eight seasons of his playing career at FC Dallas before joining the coaching staff in 2006, where he remained until Colorado hired him before the 2012 season.

The news leaves Colorado without a head coach less than a week before the 2014 MLS SuperDraft takes place

Dan Hunt named president of FC Dallas
"I look forward to building on the tremendous legacy of my late father, Lamar"

FRISCO, Texas (Monday, Jan. 20, 2014) – FC Dallas Chairman Clark Hunt today announced that Dan Hunt has been appointed president of FC Dallas. As president, Dan Hunt will direct all of the business operations of FC Dallas as well as FC Dallas Youth.

“It is truly a personal thrill to introduce my brother Dan as the next president of FC Dallas,” Clark Hunt said. “In addition to his lifelong passion for the sport of soccer, Dan has been actively engaged in the operations of FCD and Major League Soccer for the last several years, and he did an outstanding job guiding the day-to-day operations of the club in 2013. I know he will continue to work very hard to make FC Dallas the best in MLS.”

Dan Hunt has been involved in various aspects of the club for several years, beginning as a vice president for Hunt Sports Group and, most recently, as interim president of FCD since the end of the 2012 season. Hunt will also continue to play a lead role representing the club with FCD’s corporate partners, the North Texas soccer community and FCD’s supporters.

FRISCO, Texas - One of the best things about preseason is the infectious optimism flowing through everyone associated with the club and one man who was all smiles at Saturday morning's first training session was 21-year-old winger Fabian Castillo.

Having arrived nearly three years ago as a precocious 18-year-old, Castillo lived with now-FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja for a time when he first arrived in the United States and he says the new boss is the perfect man for the job.

"I was really happy when I heard that he was coming," Castillo told FCDallas.com through a translator. "He’s a guy that is very familiar with the club and someone that I know really well. Now it’s about improving on the field with him and improving on the field and executing his plans."

Indeed, 2014 is a huge year for Castillo. His fourth at Toyota Stadium, Castillo is going to be relied on for plenty of offense this year. While his tally of six assists in 2013 was respectable, just two goals scored in 33 games is a number he's looking to improve in 2014.

FC Dallas announce friendly March 1 against MLS expansion hopeful San Antonio Scorpions
    [IMG]

The two Texas teams in MLS share a bitter rivalry. A third team from the state, looking to join MLS in the coming years, is trying to build the rivalry now.

FC Dallas announced Monday they will play the NASL's San Antonio Scorpions at Toyota Field in San Antonio on March 1 at 8 pm ET. It will be Dallas' final game before their season starts a week later against the Montreal Impact.

The friendly will see the Texas sides face off for bragging rights and the Deeproot Funds Cup, and proceeds from the match will go two charities, Soccer for a Cause and Morgan's Wonderland, a 25-acre theme park in San Antonio designed for people with special needs
