Let’s just assume they’re going with 14, which may not be a sure thing, but that’s another discussion. Who’s winning that spot?
Tough call. Obviously, it will depend on who plays best in camp. (or who looks the healthiest after their injury) I want a PG and a big. But if I can only choose one then I would roll the dice on Chriss.
I would like to vote for "I hope it is utterly irrelevant, and I don't have to learn the name.". As is, the bottom of the roster is balanced enough it can be sent of them, and you know preseason is going to make one look unsustainably good.
If you're not picking cook you should probably get out from under the rock and remember we have the most idiotic GM ever and will pick a guard because he has no idea how to do anything.
Chose Chriss based on what he did last year but I like what Smith’s game could bring as a (reclamation project)
Between Smith and Cook--Smith is the better distributor and defensive player, and is also younger, bigger, and more athletic. Cook is the better shooter, from every level, and also takes better care of the ball. Given what presently comprises our guard corps, seems like Smith would make the most sense. However, if a CJ-for-Simmons deal were to materialize, Cook would fit well.
I get that you hate Neil but I am not following your logic here. You are saying he will choose a backup point guard based on history? Isn't the knock on him the last couple of years is that he refuses to sign a true PG to play behind Dame?
of the names listed, I'd go with Chriss but I'd think there is a decent chance it might be someone else. They certainly need a player the size of Chriss
I like Chriss’ chances personally. You know the saying in baseball that you can never have enough pitchers? In basketball, you can never have enough bigs. I think it’ll take something extra from the other guys, an injury at another position, or just complete inability by Chriss for him not to make the roster. It’s his for the taking imo.
I will go with a big before a guard. Due to we need big more because of Nurk and Nance injury history. Plus olshey believes CJ or Simons can be the backup point guard.
I would take any of those over CJ Elleby. Hopefully summer league was not an indication of CJ’s season.
-Patterson has a history with Billups. -Dame is currently our oldest player. Patterson would change that (by a yr) and provide a much needed vet presence (even if he doesn't play). -Agent connections are abound with guys on this list, as with Patterson (same as CJ) -None of our current bigs can shoot. Patterson would bring that skill.
Nothing wrong with adding another big who can shoot. But I would argue that Nance can shoot the 3 ball just as well as Patterson these days. Last year they were almost identical. 40-112 and 41-114
