Soooo we've seen that hard push up the court dribbling and finding Collins with a one handed DIME for a dunk? We've seen that before?? Stop it.
Our starting SF position is fine, we have enough talent so all we need are forwards who have good size and can play defense =Aminu\Turner. Our bench however, was bottom 10 last year and we lost our only decent bench player since then. Our bench is the problem. We need scorers and a solid vet Center who can play D.
One of your more obtuse posts. None of us have seen him do anything like that before. He was under control, head up, dribbling confidently, and delivered a pass the likes of which we've never seen and you're parsing how hard the push was?
So the new wrinkle in his game is dribbling with his head up and completing a relatively standard bounce pass? You're lowkey dissing your boy.
I am looking at numbers. Physical ability doesn't win basketball games - scoring more baskets than the other team wins basketball games. He was given a starting job and big minutes last season and didn't step up.
How are you going to argue "no improvement" from Moe using per 36 minutes, but claim Snell is still on an "upward trajectory". How exactly did Snell "step up" last year when given "a starting job and big minutes"?
Snell was already a fine defensive player. As a 3 & D guy, he had career best FG% and 3pt% (3pt% of .406). He was considered a bust in Chicago, but earned a $40M+ contract with his new team (that's year over year improvement).
So, Snell improving his FG% and 3FG% on a different team is improvement, but Harkless improving his FG% and 3FG% on the same team isn't. Gotcha.
OK. Great. Isn't "who shoots 3s better" a completely different argument than whether or not Moe improved last year over the year prior, or whether or not further improvement should be expected from Snell?
Having watched Snell play, he was a bust in Chicago. His improvement with Milwaukee was so great he earned a $40M+ contract. That's a big turnaround. If he continued his trajectory in his last year of his contract, he might not be in the league right now. I don't expect big improvement from Snell this season, as he's going to be buried behind ROY winner Malcolm Bragdon at PG Middleton at SG, and Antetokounmpo at SF. But here, in Stotts' offense, I see him as a starter and he'd get plenty of 3pt looks. Enough to spread the floor. Mo is a career .315 3pt shooter, Snell came into the league with an NBA 3pt shot. I'm giving Mo the benefit of the doubt that his .351 3pt shooting is a reasonable expectation. As a coach planning to defend the Blazers, I'd love to see Mo take lots of 3pt shots. I wouldn't want to see Snell taking many. Given last year's play, Snell would be an upgrade at SF, even if the only difference would be his 3pa and 3pt%. I think he's better on defense, and can also play SG, which is a bonus. Sure, Mo can play some PF, but I don't think we need more PF play, and he isn't that good at it (weak rebounder, for example).
Milwaukee is near enough the LT that the kind of deal I'd like to see for Snell likely won't happen. Ideally we'd send out something like Mo ($10M) + Davis ($6M) for Snell ($11M), getting us $5M cap savings and under the LT.
I actually like the Morris twins as players. Maybe like is the wrong word actually, but I appreciate their games. I don't think we need them though and I can't see Olshey going after them anyways considering they don't seem to fit the culture that he's always preaching about.
