It’s not just Olshey’s mediocre record as a GM, it’s his arrogance around the media. He comes across as an obnoxious jerk. Why wouldn’t people want him fired?
Popovich is as snarky with the media as anyone in the league...he's walked out of interviews, not answered questions, etc.....Neil is not anymore arrogant than most suits who are charged with marketing a franchise. I think folks in Portland have more of an issue with his hair gel and New York aggressive vocal technique than anything else. I never really got the Neil hate concerning pampering the fans or whatever but it sure comes up alot around him...I do understand criticisms of his 2016 cap use...that's fair territory but his personality is a lot less grating than many execs on the mike.
Popovich gets away with being a jerk because he has won championships. Olshey has a harder time getting away with it because he has not built a single championship team in Portland. Is that clear enough for you?
Guys, Neil Olshey just called me, and he is heart broken and in shambles about this trending on Twitter. Newsflash, who gives a fuck about a little trend on twitter! I sure bet Neil doesn't give a fuck, I don't give a fuck, you shouldn't give a fuck either. People even still use Twitter? lol Only the little group of small minded people making this uproar will care, but the sooner we ignore them the sooner they will go away.
no...because I never think Olshey comes off like a jerk....and winning anything doesn't make bad behavior acceptable....that's like saying someone famous can be rude because they are successful
I like Pop but there's no excuse for being an asshole...and Pop doesn't get a pass for that anymore than anybody in my view....I won't make a political comparison but there's an obvious one if you consider it.
I respectfully disagree. I think people get away with bad behavior all the time because they are winners, or because they bring something to the table that other people want.
thank you for that....I also think people get away with it all the time but not because they win something...because they know they won't be held accountable for whatever they say....having that kind of career security can empower bad behavior. Bobby Knight got away with it for a long time and he sure was a winner and an asshole ..eventually it got him fired. Neil Olshey is a cream puff compared to either of those guys
