also its a bit to sift through. But this thread over at SCUSA has some info on players who were left unprotected last couple drafts (Seattle, and Philly) which gives some Ideas, but obviously things change. Maybe when I get some time I'll post the actual names in the thread, until that day feel free to check it out.

lol I read that too. Also worth noting that Rooney alone costs more than the entire renovation being done to PGE Park lol.

lol depends on the Rooney. Rooney of this year? Possibly not. His struggles plus the fact that he's a prick might not ;)

Well, for starters, the 4 new guys they acquired today played for a different team last year. A non MLS team, right? That, to me, would be some sort of draft, but not expansion because expansion drafts in pro sports usually pick players from their own league. Plus, it's only 4 guys. Why only 4 guys right now? So there's yet another expansion draft to come? And that draft will fill out our roster? Also, are there going to be any carry over players from last season? Are they good enough to make a MLS roster? I'm so confused.

Valid questions actually cause the MLS is run so much differently. I may not be totally in tune with the answers either lol as honestly the MLS never mattered to me until the Timbers got/get there

With MLS there is kinda whats like Waivers... where you sign a contract with the league, and have to get through the "waiver" process to get to the team you want. With signing these players now who were part of the USL team, they can bypass that process by signing them now. I please its called something like "Player discovery" but there are only a certain amount of slots you can have for that on your roster.

Signing these 4 players now are to avoid the "Waiver process" these are the ones that they are confident that have a future with the team, and they dont want to run the risk of another MLS team gobbling them up.

Yes there will be another expansion draft after the MLS season next month. Rules change from year to year as there has been so much expansion in the MLS recently, but last time there was 2 teams picking. I think You can only pick 1 player per team (so each team could possibly lose 2 players since there are 2 teams picking) This will add 10 more players to the roster, but will not fill the roster out completely no. There still is the MLS Superdraft and Free Agent Windows etc.

The players signed already today are carry over. And during the press conference they spoke of at least 2 more signees they would have soon. (My guess would be Midfielder from Ghana Kaleef Alhassan. And Gambian national team defender Mamadou "Futty" Danso (sp?). These ones are presumed good enough to play a role in the MLS, but I honestly couldnt say for sure. Cronin will be better than any Keeper left unprotected in the expansion draft IMO. And Dike is a handful for anyone with his size and speed. Pore I'm not 100% sure about, he has MLS experience, so hopefully he will do better. From everything I read about Johnson they say he is sure MLS talent, but with lack of media in the USL I have only seen him play live once in person, but didnt really single him out.
