Durant could have been taken much lower. He's a nice player to build around if you're going to go for a younger team, but not this early in the draft.

    FWIW

Durant is an awesome pick. The reason I balked at trading for the #13 is I would have taken him there, and was hoping he'd fall to me at #27.

He's got all of Kobe's skills, offense and defense. And he's going to be about the only guy on Seattle to get the ball. He is the real deal.

Apparently...Durant couldn't have been taken much lower.

OK, should have been. There are better players available. Unless you want a really young team.

I wanted a true franchise cornerstone. I picked 21, so Duncan and Lebron were both off the board. I took the guy that I best thought could single handedly make a team good.

Iverson's been called the best player his size, ever.

Can't beat a guy who scores, dishes, and plays the passing lanes like he does, this low in the 1st round.

But can you deal with the paradox of teams being better without him, than with him?

Seems to me his game got a lot better when he left the toilet of a team that is Philly. Tho his scoring was down, his shooting % went up, etc.

I think Denver could be very good, given Melo and AI get the chance to go through a training camp together.

Aside from his big numbers in assists, points, and steals, he also gets to the line a ton.

I thought Durant went high in this draft, but he's not gonna be a bust. He might be a bust in terms of areas other than scoring, but the kid is definitely gonna put up a lot of points in the league.

How is he going to be a bust at other things?

The guy was DPOY in college, so he's going to play D, too.

He wasn't DPOY in college. Not nationally, not in his conference.

Yeah, all-defensive team, not DPOY. I guess he's not a good defender after all. /sarcasm

Quickly establishing himself as one of the top scoring threats in college basketball, Durant became the first freshman in NCAA history to receive both the coveted Naismith and Wooden Awards. Ranked fourth in the nation in scoring (25.8 ppg). Led the Big 12 Conference in scoring, rebounding (11.1 rpg) and blocks (1.9 bpg). Named the Big 12 Player of the Year and earned all-conference first-team and All-Defensive Team honors. Set school record and Big 12 record for most points in a season with 903. Also set school single-season mark in rebounds with 390. Averaged 28.9 points and 12.5 rebounds in conference play, both Big 12 single-season records. Scored a career-high 37 points on four different occasions, including a game against Texas Tech when he also had a career-best 23 rebounds. Became first player on a losing team to be named the Big 12 Tournament MVP, after scoring 37 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and setting career highs in both assists (6) and blocks (6) vs. Kansas. Set league tournament record with 92 total points scored.

Are you just looking at stats or watching him? If you watched him, you'd question his defense. If you're looking at his stats, then he's a good defender...on paper. He's very weak defensively, especially man to man, which he will need to play in the pros.

Twenty-eight is a difficult position to be in, though - with consideration to the remaining players in the draft pool - I decided to go with Shawn Marion as part of a high energy, high efficiency offense. I realize that he is far from a first or even second option, but I feel that of my targetted players, he has the highest value and is most likely to be unavailable by the thirty-third selection. Marion is the ultimate role player and I feel that he will be very effective in my game plan.

Well I had my sights locked in on AI but I missed my draft slot. Time to reel in the SHAQ.

Shaq's washed up, and can't stay healthy.

He might be washed up in the regular season, but pair him with talent in the postseason and he is still the most dominant force in the NBA.

Shaq is still a dominant player on both ends of the court. He is an intimidating defender and he demands a double team in the post.

Durant seems to have the Jordan single-mindedness thing going on, which is really rare in players as talented as he is. You're talking about players like KG, Kobe, Kidd when you talk about that combination.

I'd actually put down a friendly bet that in 5 years, the average NBA fan would rather build a team around Durant than LeBron. LeBron's got more talent, but Durant's got the winning gene.
