<div class="quote_poster">Marbire Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I agree with NTC187's lineups. Although... if you don't think Deron Williams is one of the top 10.... I mean TOP 5 point guards in the west..... You need to see a doctor. If he played in New Orleans and New Orleans were 17-5..... it would be all over the news how he was leading them to victory. Oh wait, Chris Paul gets all the publicity because no one cares about Utah....</div>

Deron would be on the bench in my lineup, I just think Nash has been more instrumental in his teams performance, while the Jazz has mainly been more of a 1-2 punch (Boozer and Williams), but he would definatley be in my lineup.

Most of you guys need calm down and be quiet. It is the only time where the fans get to voice their opinion on who they want to see playing in a freakin GAME. Sure fan will be bias toward their favorite stars but which one of you has the right to say the NBA ASG suck because of the fan voting? Sure Shane Battier has more votes than Shawn Marion, but do you actually think that he will plays in ASG game? Eventually the last 7 players from each conferences are going to be vote in by the coaches. The voting system in the ASG is quite balance if you think about it. Calm down and chillz, ASG is exciting every years just to see the best players from each conference competing one another, showcasing their talent, etc...

And that the league MVP comes off the bench?

^ I know its not right, but remember, this isn't about how good a player is, its about who (us) fans want to see play. Like kobe4life said, this is the only time we get to voice our opinions. This is about who fans like and want to see play, not about how good someone is. Again, I understand what you mean, but its about fans, not about a player's skills.

Then they should rename the game, because if you don't have the best players playing in it you can't call it the all star game.

So are you telling me Kobe and Tmac aren't one of the best players in the game??[IMG] Umair pointed out exactly, the fans only get the chance to vote for 10 players out of 24 players. Nash is amazing, great player, but heck he isn't an exciting player compare to tmac or Kobe, thus he doens't get a lot of votes. It is as simple as that! The point is the fan want to see 10 players they want to see the most, then the rest the coaches will take care of itself, don't worry man. Your man Steve Nash will be in an ASG, don't worry [IMG]

Also as a fan, i would rather see a matchup of Shaquille O'neal vs Yao Ming rather tahn Yao Ming vs Dwright Howard. I also be more interesting to see Tmac vs Lebron, Kobe vs D-Wade, KG vs Chris Bosh. I have to say so far, the fan did the right thing by voting those players to be the starter because argubably 8 of those 10 players are the league best player.

I think advertising plays a big role, too. How many less votes would T-Mac have if we weren't constantly bombarded by Adidas' "you were fooled" advertising campaign? It's all about exposure and reputation, don't kid yourself into believing that these are the best possible matchups.

Actually I am not even a Steve Nash fan, but the simple fact is he deserves it more than Mcgrady does. The fact of the matter is Mcgrady, Shaq, etc. are getting in based on their names and not what they are doing on the court. Ultimately having guys who don't deserve to start, and if it wasn't for the fans voting them in, might not even be on the all star team this year, costs someone that deserves it a shot to be an all star. For example Shaq starting the all star game (if he plays) means Howard will be a backup, but then Wallace who is not having a spectacular season, but is still putting up good numbers, will not be on the team. Like Marbire said its not the all star game if you don't have the best performers playing in it.

Again that makes it a popularity game, not an all star game. Right now Shaq has played four games, Mcgrady is averaging under 20 points, they don't deserve to be all stars at their respected positions.

Steve Nash would deserve starting in the all-star game if coaches got to decide that, but its all about fans. Fans want to see McGrady. There are probably way more fans who like McGrady than Nash. Just because you may like Nash better than McGrady doesnt mean anything. Even though Nash probably deserves it more than McGrady, thats not what people think. Even if McGrady averages less than 20 ppg, fans still like him. Like I said before, it doesnt matter if a player didn't step on the court or didn't deserve to be be in the starting lineup, this is about who fans want to see. All-star games, 3 point shootout, and dunk competition aren't anything. This is just a weekend for the fans. Its all about the fans. This is the only time we get to voice our opinions, and it doesnt matter who plays in the ASG, whether its Nash or McGrady. Apparently, more fans would like to see McGrady play than Nash. And look at this, McGrady gets a big chunk of his popularity from China, and so does Battier. Being on Yao's team and Yao being from China plays a big part in their votes. Players who probably deserve to be in the starting lineup might get bumped out of it, but I dont really care about that because this is about fans having fun. If fans want to see McGrady play instead of Nash then let it be, this isn't about skills its about fans. Its true that its not an allstar game if the best performers aren't playing in it, so tell me an allstar who is not playing in it. You wanted Steve Nash in it, he is going to play in the game right? Just not in the starting lineup. Every player who probably deserves to be in the starting lineup, is probably going to be on the bench. Fans get to pick the starting lineup and I dont care whether its Battier or Marion. All-Star game don't matter because its just about fun and the fans. If fans want Battier in the starting lineup than Marion, then I dont care, because most of the world meaning the majority would probably prefer Battier in rather than Marion. Think big, dont just think United States. Votes come from everywhere.

Not really, the fans only vote for starters, if they voted for bench also then you could say its a popularity game. This is about who we want to see. And since we only get to vote for the starters, I am still happy with it. Being a starter in the ASG doesnt really matter because its not depended on skills, just the popularity. Yeah McGrady and Shaq might not deserve to be in the all-star game if you look at it statistically, but if you look at who fans want to see, then they definetly do deserve to be in it. Fans might have favorites in who they want in the All-star game. If they like Shaq or McGrady even though they are playing bad, then they have every right to vote for them. Again, this is about who fans want to see play. We only get to vote for the starters, and it doesnt matter who starts because fans decide it. Startes aren't picked by how good their skills are, its about who fans like.

ASG is about popularity contest AND who's deserving it. That's why the NBA doesn't let all 24 players get select by fans. The NBA isn't dumb, they know what they are doing. The ASG weekend is for mainly entertainment purpose, giving to what the fans want to see most since we are the one paying the bill. Lastly, it is not about who deserving and who not deserving, it's about the fan. Also like I said earlier, the first 10 players are fan's favorite, the last 14 players are coaches' decision, which will be determine by stats. Eventually it balances out, and the ASG will still be exciting just to know that you have both what the fans want to see and to see those players that deserve to be in it.

Whether you like the starting lineup so far or not, it doesn't matter. Those are the best interesting match-up you can have in the NBA.

Tmac vs Lebron (who is more versatile? 6'8 vs 6'8)
Kobe vs Wade (who is more close to MJ?)
KG vs Bosh (can the kid Bosh be the next KG?)
Yao Ming vs Shaq (the tallest player in the NBA vs the heaviest player in the NBA)

that's 4 outta of 5, best match-up you're looking for every night. so I say the fans know what they're going

Sure, you can make a case for Kidd... but.

We are talking about this year's game. Carter has been playing better than Wade this year.

Carter's been playing better than Wade this year? You're kidding me!

Carter has Kidd on his side and they're still stuck on 9-13.
Wade is playing without Shaq and they're on 9-13 also.

I'd love to see Carter in the all-star game because of his flashy dunks and his creativity but.. come on. We are talking about Wade here. Wade, right now is MUCH more famous in the NBA than Carter. Wade is averaging good numbers. Wade is just a more complete player than Carter. And lets not forget to mention, he's not far behind Carter in creativity and elevation and being flashy when it comes to the all-star game.

By fans being allowed to vote they take a chance away from a player who deserves to make the team by voting in someone who by any other means would not be on the team. Fans vote off reputation and not performance which is the main problem right now. If the all star game is suppose to reward the best players than the NBA should vote on it, not fans.

Like I said at the end of the day because some fans stuffed the ballot box voting for guys like Mcgrady and Shaq a player who is a boarderline all star (maybe a Deron Williams in the west) will miss the team because the person who would be starting if it was a pure coaches vote is now on the bench backing up someone who would not be on the team if the coaches voted. The all star game is a popularity contest, and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. You need to determine what you want the all star game to be. A reward to the best players in the NBA, or a game to draw TV ratings. The way its currently instituted players who deserve all stars spots don't end up getting them. The fans have the choice to choose whoever they want, hell people can vote in Scalabrine for all I care, but that doesn't make it right.

I said it before and I will say it again. ASG's aren't anything big that players deserve to get in to. It is just a weekend to give all the teams and players a rest and allow the fans to have some fun in. NBA gives fans a chance to vote on something and thats the only time we get to voice their opinion. So what I am saying is that ASG's aren't anything big that you need to deserve to get in it, it's just a fun event. I know you dont like Nash, but I am just giving an example. Nash averages 25 points and 12 assists. McGrady averages 19 points per game and doesn't play very good that season. Just because Nash played better than McGrady doesn't have anything to do with McGrady starting in the game. It is about who fans want in the starting lineup because this event is mainly about fans and the fans voting for who they want to see play.

<div class="quote_poster">GameFace Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The fans have the choice to choose whoever they want, hell people can vote in Scalabrine for all I care, but that doesn't make it right.</div>
Look, if most of the people around the world like Scalabrine and prefer him over Kidd, then let it be. Like I said before, this is about popularity and who fans want to see. ASG's would have been screwed up if fans got to decide the bench too, but look, NBA allows fans to only vote for starters because NBA wants good players in it. Shane Battier being famous (China) might have gotten to play in the ASG if fans got to choose the bench, but that isn't right and it would be gay if Battier (who is not a superstar) got to play in it. All-Star game is for all-stars, but part of it is popularity. I don't care whether Dwight Howard starts at center or Shaq, it doesn't matter, its about who people (around the world) want to see. Personally, I would like to see Howard over Shaq, and common think big, no one would vote for ex: Scalabrine over Kidd. I doesnt really matter who starts because starters in ASG's dont matter, because everyone gets about the same minutes. Fans picking the starters and NBA picking reserves really sounds fair to me.

</div>That's just it, the all star game was never meant to be something for fans to simple "voice there opinions" its suppose to be a showcase of the best and brightest players fan votes are ruining that. If they want it to be that then call it a popularity game. I'm just going to leave it at that because this argument has been pretty redundant.

Dude I said it before like 100 times, ASG's aren't anything big. They are for the best players, but also for the fans. I know that the best players should participate in it and all, but the fans should decide which players they want in it. Just because you think player A deserves to start instead of player B because player A had better stats, doesnt mean anything. Its about who everyone around the world want to see. It is a popularity vote but at the same time, an even for the best players. Look there are atleast 24 players that are going to play in the ASG. 10 of them will start. the 10 are picked by the fans. The 10 who are picked to start by the fans don't really mean anything. The 10 who get picked to start are probably just popular around the world. The rest of the 14 are probably also popular but not as popular. The 14 are probably skilled, but not as popular. So the startes are determined by popularity, but the ones who make the bench deserve it. Its not like Paul Pierce/Gilbert Arenas are going to be bumped out of the ASG just because of fans. The good players all make it, but some just dont make the All Star Team as starters.
