The last above-average PG this team had:

Pretty sure the thread was about PG and how Portland's have been below average, causing our lack of success. You brought up pippen and Kobe.

Damon could shoot. Too bad he couldn't think. Or keep opposing guards from shooting over him like he wasn't even there. Or see the game beyond his next shot or pass. I honestly don't see Rondo fitting what Nate wants from a PG anyway.

14.7 seems to be what Nate wants at that position.

He's certainly had other options on the bench.

Most NBA teams in the last twenty years have had good to great shot creators. :ghoti:

El Presidente made the point about not needing a good/great point guard to win a championship, then you chimed in about Roy in regards to our slight deviation away from the OP's original point ... which had absolutely nothing to do with what we were talking about.

Why are we trashing Felton before he gets here? He was playing great with Amare. He will play great with LaMarcus and Greg and Gerald. This should be a career year for him. The position is his and he has some good targets to throw the ball to. I swear, Felton is the most hated Blazer who has never even played a game for the Blazers.

I actually agree with you for once. In Charlotte the talent around him was poo-poo. In NYK he flourished next to Amare. When he went to Denver he was surrounded by perimeter players.

Except for this one guy - Wallace, I believe his name was - who became an all-star in Felton's last year there. Those two worked really well together. Man, if only we could get that guy in here too, then we might have something interesting going...

I haven't dismissed Felton. I can't wait to see what that big bowling ball can do once he gets rolling down hill. (I know, how July 2011 of me. :) )

I really appreciated Andre Miller but his lack of an outside shot was a problem. On paper Felton should be a better 'fit' with Nate (and Brandon). Miller was the king of the lob, and was incredibly savvy. I hope Felton can work as well with LaMarcus and Crash. I'm pretty confident he will facilitate the offense better than Blankey, and he was gold, Jerry, Gold! :)

Then clearly you missed the point, and/or you had no point to begin with.

Your lack of reading comprehension and ability to follow the "bread crumbs" in a conversation are not my problem.

    ::BUMP::

With CP3 going to LA and Deron likely going to Dallas or staying in Brooklyn I think our only hope for an above-average PG is Rondo.

I like what they tried to do today with Wallace -- accumulate first round picks to put in a package for a (soon-to-be) rebuilding team.

To survive in the West you have only two options IMO: Blow it up and start from scratch or get LaMarcus his PG.

Rondo would be the best for Portland IMO. Defense, defense, defense.

How about moving heaven and earth to get Austin Rivers in this year's draft?

If we went that rout we'd totally waste LMA's prime years developing a rookie combo guard.

Looking at PG's around the league that would vault Portland back into respectability there aren't many left. It's looking like Rondo or bust. If not, we'll have to settle for the ÜBER mediocre Felton.

Actually it was a joke. I have almost no idea what kind of player Rivers is except some of the hype surrounding him coming out of high-school as the next "big thing." To your point though, I agree that they're going to have to settle the position sooner rather than later with a guy who can actually play the position at a somewhat high level. Maybe they don't need a super-star point guard (assuming they somehow acquire a star at another position) but they do need to figure it out before Aldridge gets too much farther into his contract.
