All day long I was expecting to see Jamal Crawford and Maurice Taylor in Magic jersey's and I must say, this deal is a pleasent suprise. I really like Trevor Ariza because from what I hear, he is a shut down defender who has great athleticism. I love that he is a young guy and now the Magic have youth at every position (Jameer, DeShawn, Ariza, Dwight, Darko). We have put ourselves in a very good position for the future and we should add another good player in this year's draft. On top of that, we added a huge expiring contract to our team who will put us way under the cap this offseason. Now we can max out one of the top free agents this summer and improve our team even more (can you imagine Dwight and Big Ben on the same team!?). I'm really excited about our team right now and I really think Otis Smith has done a terrific job with this team and is steering our franchise in the right direction

I agree that it was a pleasant surprise. I was pissed about the Taylor/Crawford rumor. Otis Smith has sure made up for the Vasquez debacle.

Ariza is not a shutdown defender by any means, if he was Larry Brown wouldn't have included him. Right now he's nothing more than a filler in the deal. I'm not sure if Orlando intends on re-signing him either. He has talent, but in all likelyhood the Magic won't have enough to time to evaluate him on the team.

Actually we won't be able to sign a big time FA this offseason. shape told me that the cap was estimated to be around 53-55 million. We will have 8 players on our roster for about 44-45 million. (assuming Deshawn picks up the option). Plus we should have a top 5 pick this year, so that's another 3-4 million for that. That would put us at about 47-49 mil and the cap estimate according to shape is 53-55 million. So best case scenario is about 8 mil for 3 more players, more likely case is 4-6 mil. We will get the cap room the following season when Stevenson and Hill come off. http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/orlando.htm That's where I got these figures.

On the Bo Outlaw thing, we had to cut someone to put Penny on the roster. From what I understand Penny has been cut and we resigned Bo.

You can try and sign your FA before signing your draft pick.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting explosive:</div><div class="quote_post">Salary cap relief and a slacking player off the team. T-Mac was great, don't get me wrong, but the sad truth is that he didn't want to be here. So yeah, it's almost like we lost him to free agency since we didn't get a whole lot for him looking back, but what did we give up to get him in the first place?

Salary cap relief is what this team needs now for a number of reasons...</div>

Maybe you can sign another kid with a back problem and a dude whos ankle is so shreded he doesn't play for 3 years [IMG]
