<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rory @ Jun 28 2008, 12:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>At this point, it is probably in the Nets best interests to just use Boki as a stop-gap. I'm looking at the other available SFs, and he's probably the only one who a) would definitely get playing time (and not be a McInnis or Magloire) and b) wants to play here. He knows the staff, the staff knows him. 2 years, 8 Mil should do it.</div> I disagree with this. Although Boki was a nice shooter that one season, and he has a tendency to take charges more than any other Net recently...I can't stand him on the defensive end, or when he's trying to do too much offensively. We need someone young, who can defend well, and who knows his role (preferably as a shooter) in the offense.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Dave D.)</div><div class='quotemain'>Among the unrestricted free agents the Nets are likely to target: Mickael Pietrus, Matt Barnes, Quinton Ross and Keyon Dooling. Unlike previous years, when the Nets were well over the salary cap, they are right at the cap level with a $55 million payroll, which includes the rookie salaries for Brook Lopez ($2.1M), Ryan Anderson ($1.2M) and Douglas-Roberts ($442,114).</div> Nets have plenty of holes to fill - Dave D'Alessandro - Star-Ledger This coming from a Nets beat writer, who should know these things. The other 3 would be money. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Kerber)</div><div class='quotemain'>Trades and free agency are routes to go and some names that certainly will appear on the Nets' shopping radar are two-three types. J.R. Smith of Denver is one. He's restricted and the Nuggets have promised to match any offer. For unrestricted types the Nets likely will look at Warrior Michael Pietrus, Wizard Roger Mason, Clipper Quinton Ross, Pacer Kareem Rush and Knick Fred Jones.</div> Nets happy with moves - Fred Kerber - New York Post This is coming from Fred Kerber - not sure I'd trust him. And I don't really like that list as much. Still, Ross would be nice to have.
I say we push the Warriors on Monta Ellis unless we honestly think we can get Wade AND LeBron. Monta is the perfect player for us because he can back up Harris but also start at shooting gaurd. Sign and trade involving Carter if they actually want to win now. Unrealistic but a thought.
If we go after a player like Ellis or Josh Smith then we absolutely have to trade Carter if we want cap space for 2010. I doubt we could get either of them though.
id rather much have josh smith then monte... a startin line up of monte and harris is too small... its like the bulls problems when they had kurt and ben at 1-2 it was too small... the guards would just post them up (ex: kidd postin up ben gordon) with josh smith u can have him start at the 3... and even play 3 or 4 and him and Yi being match up problems offensively at the 4.. also josh smith plays great D... both on weakside and 1 on 1 play... did u see josh smith give KG tons of problems in that 7 game series? josh smith is the next big thing... i know were all countin on LBJ to come here... now smith is the perfect compliment to LBJ... hes the "pippen"
Monta Ellis is going no where. The Warriors will match anything offered to that man. I'd assume they will want to keep Pietrus also, as they have a lot of money to throw around. The Warriors only have 17 million in contracts for next year so look for them to be very agressive with their free agents. They also need to figure out their Baron Davis situation.
i dont get why baron isnt workin out there? hes an amazing PG... and built like a tree trunk.. a huge tree trunk... not a young tree... lol anyway... him and monte should be the cornerstone of the franchise

Monta is the perfect player for us because he can back up Harris but also start at shooting gaurd.</div> It'd probably only help the Warriors if he signed an offer sheet from you guys. According to S2's salary numbers you guys have 9.6 million in cap space without rookie contracts. Add in two first round picks and a second round pick and its probably down to 6 or less. Even if Monta signed an offer sheet for 9.6 I think the Warriors would match that, at 6-7 mils its a no-brainer. As for Pietrus, hes 75% gone. He'd been requesting a trade for about a year and a half, finally started playing well and playing more after the all-star break of last season but I still think hes gone. Warriors wouldn't take him back unless he comes very cheap and hes unrestricted. Baron will play out his contract and could very well be let go of after next season.
I believe NJ will bring Boki back, ideally I would love if we brought in Shawn Marion but thats highly doubtful. As for Peitrus, his good but his shorter and weight less than Boki (6'6) averages less points and assists than Boki. Defensively Pietrus is soild but nothing than special and is trying to command a 5 mil per season salary, I honestly can't see Thorn or Kiki spending that much on a guy who we can't bank on providing vet leadership nor staying healthy.
JOSH SMITH.... that is the guy we need to go after! who here has watched some hawks basketball and seen josh smith?!?! he is growing into his OWN
