It seems to indicate that Olshey still has no idea how to build a team that works together as a unit.
no the concerning part is our GM of 9 yrs has still yet to figure out WTF to do with free agency. It appears our top choices were: Oubre/Batum/Whiteside? And we ended up with Snell/McLemore/Zeller.
I guess 2nd string in Utah is better than 3rd string in Portland. Although if he knows his Blazer history he would have known he would still be starting by January.
Who knows if we offered him before or after Zeller though. Interesting. Hassan had posted something weeks ago when a fan said he should resign with Portland that they know his number. Probably some sour grapes that we traded for Kanter after he put up decent numbers for us and he had to sign for minimum last year with the Kings. Plus, utah had a better record than us. So, probably feels they are more likely to contend.
He manages the team like it's a fantasy league. No concern for chemistry or how the pieces fit together. It's like after every season, someone says "Neil you need defense." So Neil looks at a list of players and says, "defense? Defense? Defense....... ok...... defense! RoCo and DJJ!" Didn't think at all about how DJJ wouldn't fit with Stotts at all.
if i would have had to watch whiteside slowly slip screens, and aimlessly chase blocks while leaving his teammates hang out to dry, i woulda been upset. One of the laziest players I've ever seen on the court. if there's one thing about zeller, he sets great screens and rolls hard. I better not hear the Hassan was the first choice over Cody. I think we lucked out, but it's really annoying that we even went after him in the first place.
I really doubt that Olshey would have signed both Whiteside and Zeller. Neither can play PF. So it's likely, either Whiteside is lying or Zeller was 2nd choice
Or the olshey special, he offered them 2 and someone else and said whoever accepts first gets the contract.
could be. the important thing is that illmatic's head didn't explode....just kind of percolated a bit at the thought of what could have been
Neil after Dame comes back from Tokyo Neil: Hey Dame, I improved our team while you’re gone Dame: who we got? Neil: Zeller, Snell and McLemore Dame: FML
I'm sure Dame already knows what the roster looks like, and also knows that free agency wasn't where the changes that needed to be made were going to be made.
I get what you are saying, but I think everyone's path is unique and hit or miss rate is up in the air as far as I'm concerned. Some people do just gradually mature and become solid individuals, some regress, some learn how to better wear masks, some die of chronic masturbation. What someone like Dame does is that he adds probability of better outcomes.
