Never ever draft for need. Especially when you're a .500 team on the verge of luxury tax hell

They'd have to actually pick him. We can't force them too.

The only way a late round pick is gonna help us become a contender is if we draft a sleeper with that pick who becomes a high level starter.

You can't trade 26 for a high level starter. The only thing you'll get for that pick is a middling role player, which we already have too many of.

Not at 15. The best pick there will likely be Anunoby, Jackson, or Ferguson.

If we land 2k with the 15th pick I'll freak the F out!!! Man that would be so awesome... Still think he's going to really up his stock at the pre-draft events though, so in my mind it is a pipe dream.

You only use need as a tiebreaker. If you favor one guys talent over anothers.

We can always make a trade to balance things out if we draft a wing (Like Jackson)

    Example:
    Turner for Mahinmi
    Crabbe for R.Holmes
    etc.

I like the idea of drafting a couple wings, then trying to trade away a pick, Turner, Leonard, Davis, Aminu, and either Harkless or Crabbe to get under the cap.

With those wings we drafted, whoever we took at 15 could play right away, taking Turner's role. We'd still have Harkless or Crabbe as our starting SF, and a combination of Napier, Connaughton, and the other rookie wing fighting for bench minutes.

With the $15-$25M, we could shore up our frontcourt with a guys like James Johnson, Amir Johnson, etc.

Basically, plans are fluid. Dont take the less-talented player because he fills an immediate need, especially when he might not be able to contribute right away, and needs change. I mean, look at how quickly our need for a legit starting 5 changed with one simple trade.

Just googled it and yeah Ferguson would be awesome. He'd allow us to trade Crabbe as he'd be a good spot-up shooter right off the bat.

At least one of Allen, Ferguson, Anunoby, or J.Jackson will fall to us, with maybe 2 being available.

    Hartenstein
    Giles
    Onunby

I've settled on these three. I also like Ferguson. I want to come away with any three of those four, in whatever order.

    Isaac/Collins/Ntilikina/Dozier/Anigbogu/Ju. Jackson/Mitchell/Motley for me.

Collins would the one guy I'd trade up for that's semi realistic. Isaac is the pipe dream prospect while Ntilikina is a strictly "if he falls" guy.

Hartenstein, Patton or Anunoby would be fine, but they are tools/projectable skill set guys. I have serious questions about IQ/mental makeup with all 3 w/ Patton having the highest upside out of the group, but would be the oddest fit.

Plus he's not as one dimensional as Crabbe. He's going to be a dribble drive threat as well. Good length for a wing, high BBall IQ, and a definite team player.

It's hard to say you have project players making 8 figures a year. Is there something that Josh Jackson can't do at 1/10th the price about 80% as well as Hark? Is there something that Bam Adebayo can't do for 1/4 on what Noah's making (and I like Noah....don't take this as a diss on him).

Gotta keep the pipeline of young (and cheap) talent flowing to augment the core. Then you don't have to spend 40M on Meyers because you don't have a project big to take his place. Or 74M on Crabbe. Or....

As I've said in other posts, take a look at where Patty Ice is right now vs. what Crabbe was 2 years ago in his 2nd year of a rookie 2nd-round contract. Take a look at, say, where Shabazzle Dazzle is vs. Luis Montero, Tim Quarterman and Tim Frazier. (Yes, I know we didn't draft Napier). Grab some guys who are in the top 40 or so of the draft class who can work somehow into the rotation. The guys who stick? Big money after 3/4 years. The guys who don't? I've drafted 8 other guys after you to ensure my team continues to succeed under the cap.

We ended up with 15 + 20 + 26 = 61, 62 is worst possible. So, closer to worst possible than to average. That being said, one could argue that we benefited in the most important pick.

I feel like Ferguson would be just as good as Crabbe right away. He'd probably be a decent 3pt shooter (37%?), an average defender (better than Crabbe at least), and a better attacker than AC.
