zagsfan.... hate to tell ya, but frye is a perfect fit for a team like the thunder. you know a team that will be rebuilding for 5-6 years. the knicks (that hurts) couldn't send him out fast enough...THE KNICKS! Think about that for a second. HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! You know, i know, and every NBA team knows it.
Ike bring solid defense???? You must be kidding. He's Zach Light. All offense, no defense and an even bigger black hole. Seriously, have you actually watched him play? He makes Zach look like a good defender. Just because he has big broad shoulders, don't assume he's a banger. He has the lowest rebound rate of any non-guard on the team AND the worst defensive rating on the entire active roster. Raef, with one arm in a sling, would give us better defense and more rebounding than Ike. Ike's a better offensive player (at least in garbage time) than Frye, but if you want defense and rebounding from your back-up power forward, Ike is actually a step backwards. BNM
What exactly has Freeland done to justify even being on the team, let alone the backup 4/5 next season?
Frye was atrocious last night. He has some valuable skills, but he's got to have his head in the game. He just looked lost out there last night.
Humm... I guess your not aware of what how effective he has been early this season for Gran Canaria. Here's a little excerpt from draftexpress on his recent play.
Nothing. But, with the way Frye is struggling to contribute, and is up for a new contract, I could see a couple of things happening: 1) KP brings in a new player to upgrade our backup PF situation OR the team decides to keep Outlaw for at least another year, but shifts him back to backup PF for most of his minutes. 2) KP signes Freeland, who would be on a very cheap rookie deal, in the hope he becomes a 3rd string backup big man - not the primary backup.
Ah, per 40.. Well, per 40, Channing is averaging 15 points, 7 boards and almost a block a game. I'm not sure that's a really good argument made for Freeland.
I'm not sure that you made a good argument for Frye either. Why are you looking at per 40? Freeland is averaging 12 point 5 boards and 1 block in 18 mins. Per 40 stats are useless.
because it brought up how productive Freeland was (per 40). I'm saying that 12 points and 5 boards and 1 block ain't exactly a sure fire backup PF/C in the making. It seems to be a common thing with Blazer fans (and sports fans in general), in that we elevate our guys to incredibly high platforms. This is no different. Did you also see where it said Freeland can't create his own shot?
Would you be asking him too? Neither can Anderson Varejao (compareable to Freeland) or many other backup PF in the league.
We already have a backup PF who can't create his own shot. Although he's turning nicely into this years scapegoat.
Who cares if a PF can create his own shot. He's a PF, that's not a trait carried by that position except for the very elite.
Well. He can't create his own shot. He can't get to the line. He can't rebound. He can't defend. He is a good perimeter shooter when he's wide open. That's a pretty crappy skill set for a backup PF, I would argue. I don't know that he deserves to be a scapegoat (this team is too good to have scapegoats, IMO), but he fills a spot that definitely can be upgraded. Ed O.
I agree that he loves Portland and Portland loves him right back, but sadly I'm not sure that qualifies him to play professional basketball for the Blazers. That said, I really hope he gets his head screwed on straight and picks it up down the stretch because I'd really like him to succeed here.
Channing was a beast his rookie year. He was athletic, and willing to take it to the hoop. He really was willing to mix it up inside. Then he seriously injured his left knee late in the year, and just wasn't the same. He didn't have the same mobility that he had. The guy was blocking shots and making alley-oops. Here's highlights of his rookie year pre-injury if you're willing to put up with the music, or just turn your volume down. The highlights start at around the :50 second mark. The end of the video shows Channing's injury... looked pretty brutal. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/voGZv5ZEVs0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/voGZv5ZEVs0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
A team like the Knicks who had Isaiah Thomas as GM... Not exactly the best example of a team that understands talent when they have it. Your goal as a poster is to get under peoples skin, you wait for any time an opportunity presents itself. There hasn't been many this year so your going after our backup PF's play during a blowout. When was the last time a backup 4 had a serious effect on a win or loss Think about it, tell me when you can think of it. Whether Frye had a good game against Boston or not, it still wouldn't have been enough because no one else was worth a damn either.
