God protect us from Danny Ainge. He's pretty much useless now that Kevin McHale is no longer a GM elsewhere.
fyi we traded next years pick already? so we cant trade both this years picks unless we acquire another one for either this year or next
Oh ya....What a bunch of Dumbasses we are. But now I am thinking the rule is having to have your own pick every other year?
I know they've changed something in the CBA about this, but buying low first-rounders has been pretty easy in the past.
So in your opinion no Blazer fan thinks Aldridge, Batum and Iguodala would be a title contender? Assuming you add in decent pieces like Dragic and say.....Hawes?
Well I can only speak for myself. (Although Rhal did a pretty good job of explaining my post) No I do not see Igoudala making the Blazers a title contender. I was simply stating that I have also debated back and forth the advantages of trading the two picks for a good player. I think having him in the the starting lineup with Batum and LMA would be fun to watch. They could play aggressive D. Does anyone think that the two picks will make the Blazers Title Contenders? No of course not. But I understand that the arguement for keeping the picks is that even though the draft is a crap shoot, you believe that the chance of improving through the draft is the better option AND we will have the opportunity to sign a free agent. And actually I lean in that direction. But tell me rght now MM and blaze01, if we are lucky enough to get both lottery picks this year, who are your choices? Which two guys do you suggest we pick that will someday (along with other pieces) make us Title contenders? Please put my mind at ease.
Rule is you can not not make a pick in successive years. So if tomorrow we traded picks, we would need a 1st rounder in return. Because we potentially lose our 2013 1st, we can not trade both picks. We can, however, trade the rights to players drafted.
As for being a title contender, it gets annoying to see people act as if there is just one way to build a title contender, or even a team to get past the first round in the playoffs. Indiana is currently playing Miami tough. do they seem like a title contender/ Not really. But nobody really thought Dallas did last year. Indiana didn't bottom out and build through high lotto picks, which is supposedly the only way to build.
Well there's a plan. Here is an idea. If you want him, hire him before other teams have the chance to get him. Clown Town. Hire a coach, and then bring in a GM. Idiocy.
Indiana is showing they have a lot of nice players, but no true "go-to" guy in the clutch when the Heat lock down on defense. The only way a team without an elite scorer can win is if their defense is amazing, and the Pacers aren't the 2006 Pistons in that department. I like how they maximized their resources in building, but I have a feeling they are just like Atlanta Hawks. A solid team with a high payroll (after they resign their young players) that doesn't get past the 2nd round.
They did build through the draft though. George - Lottery Hansbrough - Lottery Rush - Lottery, then traded Granger, Hibbert both drafted, or acquired on draft day So a lot of their core was acquired through the draft, and in the lottery And in the end, if they get beat by an injured Miami team, they will be nothing more than a second round and out team in a weak conference. I mean we played Dallas tough last year, but big fucking deal
They built through the worst place to be, according to you, late lotto, or low playoff seed. Grnager and Hibbert were in the late teens, only top 10 pick on the roster is George at 10. FA signing was biggest push for them. FA signing making a difference in small market?! unheard of. Have to make it past the first round to win a title, and have to make it past the 2nd round to. Do I think they will win a title? No. I didn't think Dallas would either. Only 1 team does every year. It's incredibly difficult and takes a ton of luck. But to most, there's only 1 way to build, even though history has shown otherwise.
They did for sure They have been the epitome of a mediocre team for years, and will most likely lose in the second round of the playoffs.
An odd team, really, at least in terms of collegiate experience of some of their better players. Granger - 4 years of college Hibbert - 4 years of college Hansbrough - same Collison - same West - same Dahntay Jones - same George Hill - 4 years at IUPUI (redshirted one of the years) Rush was a 3-year college player, too. I'm not sure there is another team in the league with that many 4 year college players.
