what? Covington isn’t a rookie. He’s earned his looks, and he should keep getting them.

he has a bit of Whiteside in him that he doesn't actually set picks, only slips, but he's super skilled and super athletic. Unfortunately, we neither have the tradeable pieces to land him, nor would we want to pay him the max he's looking for.

    ok...gotcha

both guys have big upsides but Young has really bad discipline for a ball-dominant PG

Atlanta has Collins, who's really quite good; they have a surplus of talented young wings...guys in the 6'6-6'8 range (Reddish, Hunter, Hueter, Bogdonovic'). They have Capela; they have Rondo as the backup PG. Gallo is out for a while though. They are young so will be incosistent but they could have won tonight if Young was a little better floor general. It's his 3rd season too

So you'd like to see more (or stay at 12FGA) attempts for Covington with the understanding they will take away looks from players who are better shooters?

I'd prefer our better shooters getting the majority of our shots and other guys slowly getting more shots once they've proven they can score at a decent clip.

    - impossible not to love Enes Kanter.
    - they played very very hard.
    - start Trent, Jones off bench
    - Carmelo is a stud I don’t care what anyone says

I got that feel also. he needs a few to fall and then when they do Stotts needs to keep him on the floor a bit.
My thought is he needs more time?

Okay I have a question. DJJ had a steal in the second half and as he started down court between two hawks he was fouled. GTJ was down court from him. I thought if a offensive player was ahead of the defensive team and a foul was called it was a clear path. Is it only the ball handler ? Cause he could of passed to Gary and he would have had a breakaway?

covington is a career 36% three point shooter, and that percentage is even higher since 2017. Yes, he should continue shooting them.

Clear path only if no defensive player is in front of the ball handler and is fouled.

I think Hood came back too early and needs more time to recover. Achilles tears usually take 18-24 months to fully recover. He tore his achilles in December 2019 so it’s only been a little over a year. KD tore his achilles 6 months before Hood and just came back himself.

For the first three quarters of a game Aminu could go 2-3 or 3-4. But every damn time in the fourth he would brick. If you didn't see that i don't know what to tell ya.
Then there were the atrocious 1-7 or 1-8 shooting nights 3 nights in a row in a row coupled with the 5-6 night to keep his numbers up there at 35%.
Now lets not get me started about the trainwreck every time he put the ball on the floor. Would you like to talk about turnover to assist rate? As long as you want to make your argument all about a stat then we might as well use all of them.
Aminu was a great guy and a good defender but he was an absolute liability on the offensive end. You seem to be the only one who doesn't feel this way?

Respect your opinion. I'd like to see 4-5 of his attempts to go to Dame, CJ, Trent, or Kanter on nights where he starts out 1-8. Thought Stotts putting him on the bench was the right move after going 1-13.

We’re only the 26th worst defense. But the 4 teams below us have a cumulative 15-32 record.

He definitely needs to keep playing. He won’t get back to his previous form sitting on the bench.

Here are the numbers to back up what you're saying about his 4th quarter shooting...

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aminual01/shooting/2019

Small sample size, but Covington was at 11% from 3 in the 4th quarter heading into this game.

One thing is clear: Dame is going to have to play 40 minutes per game just to keep it close.

It’s a lack of talent - not depth.

RoCo and DJJ bring nothing to the table offensively. RoCo in particular is laying a giant egg - he hasn’t played this bad since his rookie year.

We also don’t have a backup PG.
