I think the misery of this season is that so many people let themselves get swept up in the Nurkic hype train in that 20 game run last season. Hell, I even started to convert from my skepticism about him being on a hot streak.

Maybe the worst thing that could have happened to him is a full off-season getting indoctrinated into Stotts' system? Add in the invisible man Harkless, Turner's erratic play, and CJ the black-hole and the whole thing is just a fucking mess.

Well said. I truly believe they hadn't scouted us enough with Nurk playing with our backcourt. We caught them off guard last spring.

Nurk is the least of our problems. At least the guy can play. It's not like he's getting ANY help out there in the paint....Stotts refuses to play the key people who help him play to his full potential. Last I saw, him and Vonleh were tearing it up in the paint.

    No Vonleh tonight though.

You know who's a problem? This idiot:

Fuck this idiot. What the hell Olshey saw in him is beyond me.

So Fizdale can try to coach a broken roster too?

Why are some of you so mad? This is what the Blazers are. They are an average team, and have been for years. They'll get on a little win streak, get in the playoffs and lose. WE NEED ANOTHER STAR.

As I've posted a hundred times in the many years since the week Aldridge left and Olshey added half of the present team, he failed to get a hot-shooting little SF that week, so we have no roster balance. Everyone told me, oh he'll do it soon, stop complaining. I knew that he loves a guard-oriented team and is ideologically opposed to a good SF.

Just get a 6-6 guard who can dribble and shoot, and make him a SF. There might be one in the G-League, but for sure there are many late in the 1st round each year. Olshey is even less active than Pritchard. Bring back Bob.

    Fairweather players baffle me.

You know what else baffles me? Only getting to see 80% of the action when watching on TV. If I wanted to watch NASCAR, I would.

Not to put everything at Jusuf's feet because I sort of assumed he was an afterthought in the trade with Denver in the first place and cautioned people at the time not to expect too much. But once he flashed a level of dominance that he did, it suddenly reset expectations and seemed to provide a path out of the spiral of mediocrity the team was locked in. Him regressing to the mean isn't the primary reason the team has backslid, but by being "just OK" they don't really have any shot at being something better than what they are presently -- it means that we're right back where we were last year before the Nurkic trade: A bloated payroll, a bunch of journeymen, and a couple of guards that are very good and pretty good offensively (Damian and CJ respectively) but are inadequate defensively as a pair to ever seriously form the bedrock of a championship team.

So no, I don't blame Nurkic for the team's overall performance; Turner, and Harkless have been much more disappointing (for instance), but his erratic and sloppy play have been a pretty reliable bellweather for the fortunes of the team.

The best Nurkic played last year and this year was when combined with Vonleh....and Vonleh was rebounding better and shooting a much higher percentage. So makes sense Stotts would totally go away from that, right? :banghead2:
