I'll take the positive here. This is not a good team, and they are in need of big changes, not just a cosmetic makeover. Games like tonight will hopefully push Drury in the right direction over the next 13 days prior to the trade DL. Over the next 6 games before the DL after tonight, I would claim no one should be very upset if they lose a bunch of them. On the flip side, even though games like tonight will push Drury in the right direction, he's incompetent as I've said from day one when he was hired, so there's that issue to deal with. Bottom line, major core changes should have been made over the summer, now hopefully that message is sinking in, and bigger moves will be made before the DL. Everyone should be available, and Lindgren, Smith, and I say Kreider must go.
I don't think the two are tied together. Trading for Miller, who is signed beyond this season, was a good move. AND dead weight also needs to be offloaded before the DL. The next moves were always the biggest key to the future. Let's see what in over his head Drury does.
Why the fuck are you trading for over 30 year old even if he is signed. Right now it looks like a bad move. He traded away Kakko, and Chytil instead of getting rid of old vets. They already have too many past their prime vets. Getting rid of trouba was the only good move this shithead has done.
I see it differently. I believe the team can be back near the top next season, and Miller is exactly the type of player they need. He plays a physical grinding style and has 6 points in 6 games. Chytil is one hit away from his career ending, Kakko is a solid 3rd line winger, but they also got a solid dman back. No one has been more critical of Drury than me, but I think his moves starting with Trouba have been solid. There are two issues though: 1. This is what should have been done this past summer. He was late to the party, because he's not good at his job. 2. It's the next moves that matter. I will 100% agree with you on the Miller trade if Drury cannot take the steps necessary to get us back in a good position for next season. And not because of what he gave up for Miller, which frankly was not much, but because it's a waste of cap space and a 1st rounder if you suck anyway. He must fight the urge to cling to false hope this season, and be a major seller at the DL, focusing on next season. He needs to have confidence and balls and make some team dynamic changing moves, which unfortunately are traits Drury has yet to show he possesses. If he wants to show he has balls, trade Kreider, Fox, Miller, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Panarin. Deal at least one of those guys, and you are impacting the core for real, and that's what is needed. Not saying they all can even be moved due to clauses, but that's the kind of dynamic changing move(s) needed.
I am concerned with Miller's age. He will be 32 years old. How much longer are you going to get that physical grinding game out of him. Players like miller who play that style typically start slowing down past that age.
