I think The Thrill is going to be a really solid player in this league with 1-2 years of meaningful playing time.

I agree; I can't wait to sign him to his last contract of his career when he's 32.

Yeah, maybe, and we may not retain Afflalo after this season to boot. If Barton and T-Rob develop into good players, we lose a draft pick and Afflalo. And it seems Alonzo Gee is losing his spot to Wright, he's been playing well.

Yeah, they're not going to lose Afflalo, especially with Wesley's uncertainty.

That's funny...I kind of watched the game and thought Wow? Glad we got rid of that guy. He is still making bonehead decisions. Still leaves his feet and then looks to pass. Still tries to score when he has absolutely no way to the rim. The whole time he was on the floor i was thinking "Good Job Niel" "Great Trade!".
Not taking anything away from the kid as a person. Real nice guy and a solid individual. Has a personality the size of Colorado. But he just didn't seem to be any different even with all the PT he is getting.

Afflalo has a player option. He can choose to stay at the same money or he can opt out and see what he can get. Wesley's injury makes the latter more plausible IMO. Why not? Matthews return will be uncertain and he can secure a longer deal. Even if it is for the same money per year he can look for job security for an additional 3 years if he gets a 4 year deal. With him being 29 that would put an additional 30-35 mil (Assuming he gets the same money $8 mil.) in his pocket and secure him until 34 years old. This is a No-Brainer in my book.

I'm confused by your wording. Are you agreeing with me or discounting what I said?

What I'm reading from your post seems to say both.

Imho, he either re-signs with Portland (for the extra year teams with Bird Rights can offer) or risks it by not opting out and going into next summer as a free agent when the salary cap increases a lot.

To me, if he values the extra $$ and year (and being on a team where he'll play an important role and help compete for at title) he'll re-sign with Portland, no brainer.

What team out there, in the situation Portland is in, has cap room to spend on a player like him and will likely spend it on him?

Not disagreeing with you. But i was merely pointing out that he has a "Player Option". I would think he will "Opt Out" of that player option and get a longer deal. Some feel that if he opts out the Blazers could lose him to a team offering more money. This is always a possibility. The point is the best business decision here is for him to get a 4 year deal if he can at at least the same money or more. The Blazers obviously would be in the running for that but saying they are "Not going to lose AAA" might not be the case because of the injury. So yes i guess i was disagreeing to some extent?

Hence "1-2 years of meaningful playing time".

It's very rare that I ever get excited about opponents scoring on us, that Barton play off the inbound was excellent.

You don't know that Afflalo won't sign somewhere else. Another team might want to pay him a lot more than we are willing to offer. He's not exactly playing lights out for us so far. If anything, he's proven how valuable Wesley was for us. Portland will resign Wesley, and with CJ playing well, Afflalo could be the odd man out.

I agree. I don't know much more you want from the guy but he's doing pretty damn good imo. Besides he wasn't even brought here to be a starter but he's holding that spot as well as you can expect

I didn't see it. Some bonehead replay guy kept replaying the previous play when it happened. Can you describe it?

Barton is a FA. If you like him, then sign him. Everyone they traded for AAA other than the draft pick was a free agent. It was a fairly low risk trade.

    Thanks.

Haven't seen that in a while. I remember Payton did that in a Beavers game way back.
