Did you catch that Jon was actually King of Westeros? Dany's older brother's (would have been king) legitimate son. From bastard to king of the world.
Someone's going to have to explain to me how Jon's plan makes sense. Thanks to Bran's message, he knows the white walker army is on its way to Eastwatch and, if they break through, the game's over. So he (eventually) traveled to the Wall, they now need to travel to the army, collect a soldier from that army, travel back in the same direction as the army, travel back to King's Landing and have a little palaver with Cersei to show her the captured wight. At which point, hopefully, they'll get an armistice and troops to head back to the Wall with. In all that time, the white walker army isn't going to reach Eastwatch and break through? Did I miss an important point that explains why that isn't a problem?
I'd just send the *wyverns to melt the Red Keep, end the war real quick, fast, and in a hurry, and then march north.
Has anybody else noticed a weird time compression effect in this season's episodes? The way they are shooting and editing these people travelling makes it feel like everyone has their own private jet and are zipping around the continent at mach 1. I get it; they've gotta wrap this shit up, but it's pretty jarring compared to the first six seasons.
Yeah, I agree that it's jarring. They're taking journeys that comprised half seasons in the past and turning them into star wipes. I guess not only do they need to wrap things up, since this season will be short, but I suppose if they didn't have anything important happening on the journeys, there's only so much Jon-broods-on-the-deck-of-a-ship they can do. But it doesn't really sync up with everything else going on.
It almost feels like fast-travel in a video game . . . which dovetails nicely with the video-gamey plot evolving right now.
I guess that makes sense. So what do you think the chances are of a spinoff? I personally want to see Ned Stark as a young warrior with Robert Baratheon.
Pretty high. There's been a lot of talk of spin-offs and I've always thought Martin's world-building (or maybe I should say myth/history-building) was robust enough to justify more stories told in the world. I'd love to see, as you said, Robert's Rebellion and the events leading up to it. Plus there's the Targaryan's rise to power that could be fun to watch. Honestly, the Stark history and Lannister history could probably each sustain a spin-off. I don't know how many they'd want to do, but there's plenty of material, IMO.
I agree with Minstrel in part. lots of talk about spin offs etc. I believe that the fact that everyone already knows the out come of Roberts rebellion, makes that story a poor choice. As there have been no book to follow, the show quality suffers, as we have seen. Would end up with "Joanie loves Chochi" VS "Happy Days". A better choice in my opinion, would be to do the Dunk and Egg stories. Several books, lots of familiar characters and great stories.
Has anyone watched the leaked episode yet? I guess it was accidentally released in Spain for five hours yesterday.
I just watched the latest leaked episode, which is bittersweet, because now I gotta wait like 10 days until the next episode.
