    Rookie Young delivers to lift Rays over Jays

    <h3>TAMPA BAY 5, TORONTO 3</h3>TORONTO (Ticker) -- Tampa Bay Devil Rays rookie Delmon Youngdelivered a two-out, bases-loaded single in the top of the ninthinning to give his team a 5-3 victory over the Toronto BlueJays on Thursday.

    It was just the second time the Devil Rays won a series on theroad this season.

    Young, who had two hits on the day, laced a single tocenterfield off Toronto reliever Jeremy Accardo (1-1), scoringCarl Crawford and Carlos Pena to break a 3-3 deadlock.

    Toronto starter A.J. Burnett pitched seven innings, striking outa season-best 13 hitters, including the last four he faced.The righthander allowed three runs on seven hits and three walkswhile throwing a season-high 129 pitches. It is the sixthstraight outing in which the oft-injured starter has topped the100-pitch mark.

    Righthanded reliever Gary Glover (3-2) picked up the win bypitching a scoreless eighth inning. Devil Rays closer Al Reyesfired a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save in as many triesthis season.

    Crawford capped off a brilliant series against the Blue Jays.The speedy outfielder had three hits and stole a base Thursday,finishing the series by hitting .500 (8-for-16) with threedoubles and a home run.

    Tampa Bay opened the scoring by plating a pair in the thirdinning. The first run came on Brendan Harris' fifth homer ofthe season, and later an infield single by Ty Wigginton scoredCrawford.

    The Blue Jays got a run back in the fourth inning on an RBIgroundout by rookie Adam Lind, scoring Frank Thomas.

    Greg Norton put the Devil Rays ahead 3-1 in the fifth, doublinghome Crawford who led off the frame with a walk.

    Alex Rios knotted the score at three with a two-run shot in thefifth, scoring Jason Phillips who led off the inning with awalk.

    Troy Glaus added a pair of hits for Toronto.

    Tampa Bay starter Edwin Jackson remained winless, but turned inone of his best outings of the season. The 23-year-oldrighthander allowed three runs on four hits and three walks andstruck out six before departing after six innings.

    Relievers Shawn Camp pitched a scoreless seventh inning for theDevil Rays.

    Young, who had two hits on the day, laced a single tocenterfield off Toronto reliever Jeremy Accardo (1-1), scoringCarl Crawford and Carlos Pena to break a 3-3 deadlock.

    "I didn't know where the ball was until I looked up (fromfirst)," Young said. "I knew the game was going to be over,knowing (Al) Reyes was coming into the game."

    Toronto starter A.J. Burnett pitched seven innings, striking outa season-best 13 hitters, including the last four he faced.

    The righthander allowed three runs on seven hits and three walkswhile throwing a season-high 130 pitches. It is the sixthstraight outing in which the oft-injured starter has topped the100-pitch mark.

    "I felt good. I look at it as I made two mistakes and theyscored two runs in the (third) inning," Burnett said.

    Righthanded reliever Gary Glover (3-2) picked up the win bypitching a scoreless eighth inning. Reyes fired a perfect ninthto earn his 15th save in as many tries this season.

    Crawford capped off a brilliant series against the Blue Jays.The speedy outfielder had three hits and stole a base Thursday,finishing the series by hitting .500 (8-for-16) with threedoubles and a home run.

    "It seems like things have been going well, hopefully we cankeep it up," Crawford said.

    Tampa Bay opened the scoring by plating a pair in the thirdinning. The first run came on Brendan Harris' fifth homer ofthe season, and later an infield single by Ty Wigginton scoredCrawford.

    The Blue Jays got a run back in the fourth inning on an RBIgroundout by rookie Adam Lind, scoring Frank Thomas.

    Greg Norton put the Devil Rays ahead 3-1 in the fifth, doublinghome Crawford who led off the frame with a walk.

    Alex Rios knotted the score at 3-3 with a two-run shot in thefifth, scoring Jason Phillips who led off the inning with awalk.

    "We came back and tied it, we thought we had a chance, we feltgood all day long, it didn't happen," Blue Jays' manager JohnGibbons said. "We just didn't score enough."

    Troy Glaus added a pair of hits for Toronto.

    Tampa Bay starter Edwin Jackson remained winless, but turned inone of his best outings of the season. The 23-year-oldrighthander allowed three runs on four hits and three walks andstruck out six before departing after six innings.

    "It seems like it's been that way for the year," Jackson said."I'm just trying to keep it on a roll, not get too low or toocomfortable, and feel like every start is my last one."

    Relievers Shawn Camp pitched a scoreless seventh inning for theDevil Rays.
