BOSTON (Ticker) -- Manny Ramirez can still turn on a fastball.

Ramirez blasted a three-run, walk-off homer to give the BostonRed Sox a 6-3 victory Friday over the Los Angeles Angels ofAnaheim and a two games to none lead in their best-of-fiveAmerican League Division Series.

The bullpen tossed 4 1/3 hitless innings for the Red Sox, whohave not lost a postseason game to the Angels since Game Four ofthe 1986 ALCS.

With the score tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the ninth, Julio Lugoled off with a single and moved to second when Dustin Pedroiagrounded out to shortstop. Anaheim then turned to its All-Starcloser, Francisco Rodriguez (0-1), who struck out Kevin Youkilisbefore issuing an intentional pass to David Ortiz.

That set the stage for Ramirez, who took a 96 miles-per-hourfastball over the inner half of the plate way over the "GreenMonster" and out of Fenway Park for the win.

Ramirez turned on the ball and raised both arms in the air, watching the ball sail deep out of the park as his teammatesstreamed out of the dugout.

It was the ninth postseason walk-off win in Boston franchisehistory and the first since Ortiz won games four and five of the2004 ALCS in extra innings.

Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon (1-0) set up the blast bypitching out of trouble in the eighth. Howie Kendrick reachedon a throwing error by third baseman Mike Lowell and Papelbonwalked pinch hitter Juan Rivera.

With runners at second and third, Chone Figgins struck outlooking to end the threat.

Ramirez's game-winning blast may not have been possible exceptfor a hometown break from one of their fans.

With the Angels holding a 3-2 lead in the fifth, Dustin Pedroialed off the frame with a double and moved to third on acheck-swing groundout by Kevin Youkilis before Ortiz wasintentionally walked.

With a 2-2 count, Ramirez popped up a foul ball behind the RedSox on-deck circle. Catcher Jeff Mathis gave chase and reachedover the camera well to make a play. But a fan reached up andsnared it before it hit Mathis' glove. The legal play by thefan preserved the at-bat.

Ramirez walked before Lowell followed with a sacrifice fly thattied the game, 3-3.

The Angels lost Vladimir Guerrero to a contusion on his leftshoulder when reliever Manny Delcarmen hit him in the seventhwith a fastball clocked at 97 miles per hour.

The marathon contest was played before 37,706, the largestpost-World War II crowd at Fenway Park and the largestpostseason crowd in Fenway history.

The normally aggressive Angels were patient against Bostonstarter Daisuke Matsuzaka in the early innings, driving up therighthander's pitch count.

Matsuzaka threw 31 pitches in the first and 28 more in thesecond, when the Angels wiped out a two-run deficit with athree-run rally.

Casey Kotchman opened with a walk before Kendry Morales followedwith a bad-hop single that glanced off second baseman Pedroia'sglove and skipped a short distance away into right field.Pedroia, who landed hard on his left shoulder trying to make thestop, could not immediately get up to retrieve the ball, allowing Kotchman to get to third.

Mathis then grounded out to third, scoring Kotchman with thefirst run. Chone Figgins lined a hit down the left field linethat Ramirez overran, allowing Figgins to reach second base fora double, scoring Morales to tie the game at 2-2.

Former Boston postseason hero Orlando Cabrera, who was a memberof the 2004 World Series team, followed with a double toleft-center field that scored Figgins with the go-ahead score.

Matsuzaka allowed at least one base runner in each of the firstfive innings, and was pulled two outs into the Angelsfifth-inning threat. With Macier Izturis on third and Kotchmanon first following a walk, lefthanded reliever Javy Lopez threwone pitch and induced Morales to hit into an inning-endingfielder's choice groundout.

Matsuzaka allowed seven hits and three runs over 4 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out three while throwing 96 pitches -62 for strikes.

Los Angeles starter Kelvim Escobar allowed three runs and fourhits over five innings, striking out five and walking five.
