Wang, Rodriguez lead Yankees over White Sox

<h3>NY YANKEES 5, CHI WHITE SOX 1</h3>CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Chien-Ming Wang gave the New York Yankees'bullpen a much needed breather.

Chien-Ming Wang threw the Yankees' first complete game of theseason and Alex Rodriguez drove in two runs as New York posted a5-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Wang, who has been the Yankees' most reliablestarter this season, allowed one run and five hits with fourstrikeouts and one walk. The righthander has now allowed threeruns or less in four of his last five starts.

It was the first complete game for Wang since July 28 vs. TampaBay and the third of his career.

The effort was a welcome sight considering the New York bullpenhas been forced to make an American League-leading 195appearances this season.

Meanwhile, New York's offense continues to emerge from itsslumber. The Yankees scored four runs in the third inning,highlighted by a bases-loaded two-run single to left field byRodriguez, which helped the Yankees to their sixth win in thelast eight games.

Johnny Damon had two doubles and an RBI for New York, which isaveraging eight runs during that stretch compared to 2.8 runsduring its recent five-game losing streak.

Damon, who has six hits in his last three games, has been a bigpart of the offensive awakening. Serving as the designatedhitter with Jason Giambi on the disabled list, Damon started thescoring by belting an RBI double down the right field line inthe third.

New York, which pounded out a season-high 17 hits in Tuesday's7-3 win, kept rolling with 11 more on Wednesday.

Chicago's Javier Vazquez (3-4), who went 14-10 in 2004 for theYankees before being traded to Arizona, allowed four runs andseven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.

The righthander started out with a shaky first inning when Damonhit a bloop double over third base, but Vazquez struck outJeter, Bobby Abreu and Rodriguez in succession to end thethreat.

However, all three hitters got their revenge two frames later.After Cairo led off with a single and stole second, Damon rippeda 2-2 offering from Vazquez into right field for a 1-0 lead.After Jeter singled and Abreu walked, Rodriguez hit a shot offthe left field wall to plate two runs, but he was thrown out atsecond.

Rodriguez moved into a tie for second place with Houston'sCarlos Lee with 52 RBI.

Hideki Matsui then plated Abreu with a sacrifice fly for a 4-0lead, but he too was thrown out at second when the throw homewas cut off by rookie third baseman Josh Fields.

Abreu, who is hitting .476 (10-for-21) in his last six games,<div class="pre">padded the lead with his third homer of the season in the</div>eighth off reliever Boone Logan.

Chicago threatened in the sixth before rookie Jerry Owens wasthrown out by Melky Cabrera when he attempted to score on asingle by Tadihito Iguchi, killing a one-out rally in the sixthwith slugger Jim Thome on deck. Thome then grounded out tosecond to end the frame.

Juan Uribe drove in the lone run for the White Sox, who havelost nine of 11 to fall a season-high three games under .500.

Wang, Rodriguez lead Yankees over White Sox

Wang threw the Yankees' first complete game of the season andAlex Rodriguez drove in two runs as New York posted a 5-1victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Wang, who has been the Yankees' most reliablestarter this season, allowed one run and five hits with fourstrikeouts and one walk. The righthander has now allowed threeruns or less in four of his last five starts.

It was the first complete game for Wang since July 28 vs. TampaBay and the third of his career.

The effort was a welcome sight considering the New York bullpenhas been forced to make an American League-leading 195appearances this season.

Meanwhile, New York's offense continues to emerge from itsslumber. The Yankees scored four runs in the third inning,highlighted by a bases-loaded two-run single to left field byRodriguez, which helped the Yankees to their sixth win in thelast eight games.

Johnny Damon had two doubles and an RBI for New York, which isaveraging eight runs during that stretch compared to 2.8 runsduring its recent five-game losing streak.

Damon, who has six hits in his last three games, has been a bigpart of the offensive awakening. Serving as the designatedhitter with Jason Giambi on the disabled list, Damon started thescoring by belting an RBI double down the right field line inthe third.

New York, which pounded out a season-high 17 hits in Tuesday's7-3 win, kept rolling with 11 more on Wednesday.

Chicago's Javier Vazquez (3-4), who went 14-10 in 2004 for theYankees before being traded to Arizona, allowed four runs andseven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.

The righthander started out with a shaky first inning when Damonhit a bloop double over third base, but Vazquez struck outJeter, Bobby Abreu and Rodriguez in succession to end thethreat.

However, all three hitters got their revenge two frames later.After Cairo led off with a single and stole second, Damon rippeda 2-2 offering from Vazquez into right field for a 1-0 lead.After Jeter singled and Abreu walked, Rodriguez hit a shot offthe left field wall to plate two runs, but he was thrown out atsecond.

Rodriguez moved into a tie for second place with Houston'sCarlos Lee with 52 RBI.

Hideki Matsui then plated Abreu with a sacrifice fly for a 4-0lead, but he too was thrown out at second when the throw homewas cut off by rookie third baseman Josh Fields.

Abreu, who is hitting .476 (10-for-21) in his last six games,<div class="pre">padded the lead with his third homer of the season in the</div>eighth off reliever Boone Logan.

Chicago threatened in the sixth before rookie Jerry Owens wasthrown out by Melky Cabrera when he attempted to score on asingle by Tadihito Iguchi, killing a one-out rally in the sixthwith slugger Jim Thome on deck. Thome then grounded out tosecond to end the frame.

Juan Uribe drove in the lone run for the White Sox, who havelost nine of 11 to fall a season-high three games under .500.
