GAME THREAD: GAME THREAD: CFL: MONTREAL at BC

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Joe Smith ran for 161yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns as the BC Lionsdefeated the Montreal Alouettes, 46-14, on Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Smith scored a pair oftouchdowns in just under two minutes to lead the Lions (6-2-1)to 17 unanswered points in the second and a 17-7 halftime lead.His effort spearheaded an incredible performance against theCFL's second-ranked rush defense, as BC gained 275 yards on 36carries.


Smith was assisted by Ian Smart, who added scoring runs of nineand 13 yards in the fourth quarter, finishing with 63 yards on10 carries. Jarious Jackson, BC's third-string quarterback,completed 8-of-18 passes for 145 yards with one interception.

The Lions' defense did its part as well, sacking Alouettesquarterback Anthony Calvillo five times. Defensive back RyanPhillips also recorded his league-high seventh interception inthe third quarter and returned it 92 yards for a touchdown.

Cavillo finished 15-of-25 for 151 yards and two touchdowns forMontreal (5-4).
