ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The resurgent Atlanta Hawks continue toimpress this preseason.


Marvin Williams and Josh Smith scored 24 points apiece to leadthe Hawks to a 103-99 preseason victory over the WashingtonWizards on Monday.


Josh Childress scored 22 points for the Hawks, who haven't madeit to the postseason since the 1998-99 campaign. But they hopetheir young talent can help them end the league's longestpostseason drought.


If Monday is any indication, Atlanta's once-woeful squad mightbe all right.


Childress and Smith combined for 16 of Atlanta's 26fourth-quarter points, including a jam by Childress with 6:13remaining to give the Hawks an 87-81 lead.


Particularly impressive has been the play of rookie Al Horford,the third pick in the 2007 draft. Subbing for the injured ZazaPachulia, the 21-year-old made his first start - scoring 10points and grabbing six rebounds.


Washington's first-round pick Nick Young scored all nine of hispoints in the fourth quarter, including a long jumper with 24.8seconds remaining to cut Atlanta's lead to 101-99.

Gilbert Arenas scored 19 points and Antawn Jamison added 12 andnine rebounds for the Wizards, who lost for just the second timein seven preseason games.


Atlanta guards Tyronn Lue and Salim Stoudamire made theirpreseason debuts.


Lue, who is battling a sore right knee, collected eight pointsand five assists in 21 minutes. Stoudamire had a cameoappearance with two seconds remaining in the first half.

The Hawks were also without their second first-round pick AcieLaw IV (sore left wrist), point guard Speedy Claxton (rightknee) and forward Lorenzen Wright (neck).


Meanwhile, Washington did not dress forward Oleksiy Pecherov(left quadriceps muscle) and center Etan Thomas, who underwentopen heart surgery on October 11.

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards aim for their firstwin of the season when they visit the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.

After getting swept in last season's postseason, Washington hasstill not cracked the win column this campaign with fiveconsecutive defeats.


On Friday, Caron Bulter scored21 points and Gilbert Arenaschipped in 18 as the Wizards dropped a 118-92 decision to theDenver Nuggets.


Washington's dismal start is the worst since 1966, when its homewas located down the road in Baltimore.


The Hawks are also coming off a tough loss in their lastouting, a 106-83 thrashing on Friday at the hands of thenew-look Boston Celtics.


But Atlanta enters undefeated in two game at Philips Arena thisseason, where its averaging 103.0 points and shooting 45percent.


Washington captured three of four meetings from Atlantaduring the season series in 2006-07.
