MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- If new Minnesota Vikings quarterbackTarvaris Jackson was hoping to go into the regular season with alittle momentum, he is probably disappointed. Entering without a touchdown pass in the preseason, Jacksonplayed just one series Thursday, but the Vikings went on toclose out the exhibition season with a 23-14 victory over theDallas Cowboys. It was a tough preseason for the Vikings' offense, as the firststring managed only a field goal against St. Louis in theopener. But rookie Adrian Peterson rushed for 70 yards and atouchdown in the second game. Last week at Seattle, the team's lone touchdown came on anoption pass from wide receiver Bobby Wade to backup tight endVisanthe Shiancoe. Against Dallas, the starters played just one series. Petersonran once for two yards, and Jackson's lone completion on fiveattempts went to rookie wide receiver Sidney Rice for a 13-yardgain. It was more time than Dallas' starters saw, however. None of the Cowboys' key skill players saw action as Tony Romo,Terrell Owens, Julius Jones and Marion Barber III watched fromthe sidelines. Dallas' No. 2 wide receiver, Terry Glenn, againwas not in uniform due to his injured knee and may not be readyfor next weekend's season opener against the New York Giants. One bright spot for Minnesota's offense was kicker RyanLongwell. Longwell missed a pair of field goals - including a 37-yarderlast week - in the first three preseason games. In this one, hewent 3-for-3, including a 47-yarder in the final seconds of thefirst half that gave the Vikings the lead for good, 17-14. Not even listed on the Cowboys' depth chart at a punt returner,Jerheme Urban provided the biggest play of the night for eitherteam when he took a punt by Chris Kluwe 95 yards for a touchdownin the first quarter to start the scoring. However, Urban's big impression did not last long, as he laterlost a fumble after a reception near midfield. Newly acquired quarterback Kelly Holcomb made his firstappearance for the Vikings and led the team to a field goal onthe first drive of the second half. The veteran had the offensemoving again on the next drive before throwing an interceptionat the goal line. Attempting to hold off Holcomb for the backup spot, BrooksBollinger was 9-of-15 for 109 yards, including a four-yardtouchdown pass to Rice. Holcomb finished 5-of-8 for 59 yardsand the one interception. In his return to Minnesota, Dallas backup Brad Johnson completed5-of-7 passes for 44 yards.
