Re: NFL: GREEN BAY (1-0) at NY GIANTS (0-1)

Eli Manning has been absolutely horrible today, and just playing dumb, and crappy.

Packers are completely owning the Giants offensively and defensively. Good time I picked the Packers to win their game this week : D

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- With a vintage
performance, Brett Favre became the winningest quarterback inNFL history on Sunday.

Favre picked apart the New York Giants' pourous secondary, completing his first 14 passes of the second half to lead theGreen Bay Packers to a 35-13 victory.

Favre recorded his 149th career win, breaking the record heshared with Hall of Famer John Elway.

The Giants (0-2) received an inspirational effort from EliManning, who started despite a bruised throwing shoulder, andled, 10-7, at haltime.

But Favre took over in the second half, throwing three touchdownpasses and finishing 29-of-38 for 286 yards. It was his 58thgame with three or more touchdown passes.

The 17-year veteran was 5-of-5 on Green Bay's first possessionof the second half, giving the Packers (2-0) a 14-10 lead with a2-yard TD pass to Bubba Franks.

After the Giants settled for Lawrence Tynes' 32-yard field goal,Favre continued his precision passing. He was 9-for-9 on GreenBay's next possession, which he capped with a 3-yard TD pass toDonald Lee early in the fourth quarter.

Things fell apart for the Giants as Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled theensuing kickoff. Five players later, Favre tossed a 10-yard TDstrike to Donald Driver to put away the contest.

The Packers continued to pour it on, grabbing a 35-13 lead onDeShawn Wynn's 38-yard TD run with 4:22 remaining.

Last season, New York repeatedly was hurt by undisciplinedpenalties and the trend continued Sunday as the Giants twice hadto settle for field goals following costly penalties inside thered zone.

The first went against Jeremy Shockey for spiking the ball afterhe picked up a first down and the second was a taunting callagainst Armani Toomer.

Manning completed 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards, though he wasnot effective in the second half.

"Maybe one day down the road it will mean a lot," Favre said."But the most important game is the next game. I'm proud tohave played in a lot of games."

Favre rebounded from a sub-par effort in last week's 16-13victory over Philadelphia in which he completed 23-of-42 passesfor 206 yards.

The three touchdowns give Favre 417 for his career, leaving himjust three shy of Dan Marino's NFL mark.

"We gave him the game ball," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said."The all-time anything in this league is such a monumentalachievement. One hundred forty nine wins speak for itself."

Favre, however, tried to deflect talk away from his individualaccomplishment.

"I think it's unfair the quarterbacks get labeled with wins andlosses," he said. "Last week was a perfect example. I didn't doanything, and they gave me the win."

Green Bay has reeled off six straight victories, dating to theend of last season, when the Packers won their last four gamesto finish 8-8. However, Green Bay may get a tougher test nextweek when it hosts San Diego.

"I am pleased to start 2-0 with as many questions as we havehad," Favre said. "How well we handle success is as important ashow you handle adversity."

Last season, New York repeatedly was hurt by undisciplinedpenalties and the trend continued Sunday as the Giants twice hadto settle for field goals following costly penalties inside thered zone.

The first went against Jeremy Shockey for spiking the ball afterhe picked up a first down and the second was a taunting callagainst Amani Toomer.

With the game tied 7-7, a 16-yard completion to Shockey appearedto give the Giants a first down at Green Bay's 14. ButShockey's penalty negated the gain and the Giants had to settlefor Tynes' 48-yard field goal.

After the Packers took a 14-10 lead, the Giants reached theGreen Bay 8, only to have that drive stall after Toomer'staunting penalty.

"We made some stupid penalties today," Giants coach Tom Coughlinsaid. "We have no excuses. We gave ourselves someopportunities, and then took them away, so we became our ownworst enemy."

Manning completed 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards, though he wasnot effective in the second half.

"We obviously left too many points on the field," Toomer said."We are where we are supposed to be."

Re: NFL: GREEN BAY (1-0) at NY GIANTS (0-1)

I never thought I'd say this, but Eli Manning was the only one out there worth a crap this game, considering what his teams' D gives him every week.

The Giants defense is a complete joke. Absolutely horrible. The Packers are supposed to have a average-below average offense, but not today.

What's worse, is the Giants D is not only terrible, they don't care either. I don't know what they care about, but it sure isn'tthethousands of fans that sell out Giants Stadium every year and support the team, or the dignity of having a past-his-prime (but not over the hill)QB with a bunch of 23 year old recievers and backs comein and light you up.It could be argued that Giants' season ended the day Strahan decided to come back. He's the captain of this defense? He's Captain of nothing.

"Maybe one day down the road it will mean a lot," Favre said."But the most important game is the next game. I'm proud tohave played in a lot of games."

The Giants (0-2) received an inspirational effort from EliManning, who started despite a bruised throwing shoulder, andled, 10-7, at haltime.

"Physically, I feel fine," Manning said. "Mentally, I am upsetabout the loss. I thought we had some opportunities, butphysically, I feel fine.

But Favre took over in the second half, throwing three touchdownpasses and finishing 29-of-38 for 286 yards. It was his 58thgame with three or more touchdown passes.

"Penalties will kill you, especially down there," Manning added."You can't afford them and we have to be smarter than that. Wecan't afford to make mistakes that are going to put us in a badsituation."

"We obviously left too many points on the field," Toomer said."We are where we are supposed to be."

can we just clean house on Defense except for some players? it is painful to watch guys who do not adjust to the other team and keeps allowing teams pass anywhere they want too. all the questions are about is Eli going to take that next step? is Eli a leader? can Eli do this or that and Eli has been the most consistant part of our team. is he Peyton? No, but peyton is a special talent and nobody should be compared to him. Eli is the last person i am worried about on this team. im only worried about the severity of his injury. everyone else needs to shut their mouths and learn the game of football, especially defensive players.
