MONCTON, New Brunswick (Ticker) -- Jon Sim gave the New YorkIslanders a glimpse of what they're expecting.

Sim scored a pair of goals and captain Bill Guerin also talliedas the Islanders posted a 3-1 preseason victory over theMontreal Canadiens at the Moncton Coliseum on Wednesday.

A third-round pick of Dallas in 1996, Sim became somewhat of ajourneyman after failing to earn a regular spot in the Stars'lineup, playing for four different teams over parts of threeseasons before landing in Florida in 2005-06, when he scored 10goals in just 33 games with the Panthers.

The 29-year-old tallied 17 times in 77 games as a regular withAtlanta last season before signing a three-year, $3 millioncontract with New York in July. Sim gave the Islanders a solideffort Wednesday, netting a power-play goal 7 1/2 minutes intothe game to open the scoring and converting a feed fromdefenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron with less than 5 1/2 minutes togo in the session for a 2-0 lead.

Also signed as a free agent during the summer, Guerin extendedthe advantage less than two minutes later, wristing a shot pastgoaltender Cristobal Huet.

Rick DiPietro was flawless for the Islanders, turning aside all19 shots he faced in two periods of work. Wade Dubielewiczplayed the third, making 10 saves.

Sergei Kostitsyn scored the lone goal for the Canadiens in thefinal period.

Huet allowed all three tallies by the Islanders despite stopping14 shots in the first session and nine more in the second.
