    PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Nicklas Bergfors scored two goals andRod Pelley also tallied as the New Jersey Devils defeated thePhiladelphia Flyers, 3-1, in a preseason contest Monday.

    Making his first appearance in preseason, goaltender MartinBrodeur stopped all eight shots he faced for the Devils, whoavenged an early exhibition loss to the Flyers.


    The Devils scored on their first power-play attempt to take a1-0 lead at the 7:50 mark of the first period. With DerianHatcher off for interference, Bergfors scored his first goalwhen he took the pass from Karel Racheunek and fired a leftcircle slap shot through the pads of netminder Martin Brion.

    New Jersey made it 2-0 when Pelley deflected a shot from SergiBrelyn's slap shot from the top of the slot. The deflectionwent past the glove side of Brion then off of the post and inthe net.


    The Flyers had one last chance to tie the game as they went withan extra skater in the game's final minute. Simon Gagne's shotfrom the right side was stopped by Frank Doyle. Brian Giontapicked up the rebound and fed Bergfors, who recorded his secondgoal of the game with 20.1 seconds to go in the game.

    Biron made 22 saves for Philadelphia, which got its lone tallyfrom Daniel Briere in the final period.
