Lilly, Fontenot lead Cubs to third straight win

<h3>CHICAGO CUBS 4, SAN DIEGO 1</h3>CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Ted Lilly bounced back to form with eightstrong innings and Mike Fontenot drove in three runs to lead theChicago Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres onFriday.

Lilly (5-4) helped the Cubs win their third straight game byallowing just one run and six hits, walking one and striking outthree. It was the lefthander's first start since being ejectedafter hitting Edgar Renteria with a pitch in the first inningof a 5-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

The win also turned around a recent rough stretch for Lilly, whowas winless over his past four starts, allowing 17 runs - 16earned - over 17 innings.

Ryan Dempster worked a perfect ninth inning to record his 15thsave of the season.

Fontenot gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning, when hehit his second home run of the season - a two-run blast - offPadres starter David Wells.

The second baseman also drove in Chicago's first run in thefourth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Mark DeRosa. DeRosa ledoff the inning with a double and moved to third on a single byMichael Barrett.

DeRosa's two-base hit came on the heels of two spectacular playsin the field in the top of the fourth. The third baseman madea nice play on a tough grounder by Mike Cameron, then robbedKhalil Greene with a diving catch of a line drive down the thirdbase line.

Alfonso Soriano added his 11th homer of the season in the sixthto provide the final margin.

Derrek Lee went 4-for-4 for the Cubs, collecting three doublesand a single.

The Padres plated their lone run in the sixth inning. HiramBocachica led off with a double to center field and scored twobatters later on a triple by Adrian Gonzalez.

Wells (3-4) took the loss, allowing four runs and 10 hits in sixinnings. The 44-year-old lefthander walked one and struck outfive.

Cla Meredith and Kevin Cameron each pitched a scoreless inningin relief of Wells.
