Rookie Kevin Kouzmanoff belted a two-run homer later in theframe and Adrian Gonzalez and Greene had three RBI each for SanDiego, which had not scored more than five runs in any of itsseven previous games.

"It was nice to win this game," Padres manager Bud Black said."Roller-coaster games like this can build momentum. We usedeverybody but Joe Thatcher and Milton (Bradley). It was truly ateam win."

The Padres, who had lost two straight and three of four, remained three games behind the National League West-leadingArizona Diamondbacks, who beat Washington, 11-4, on Friday.

After Cincinnati closer David Weathers (2-4) walked the basesloaded in the 12th, Greene hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Gonzalez from third for an 8-7 lead. After a doublesteal, Bard then lined a pitch from Weathers into the rightfield corner to make it 10-7.

"We went with our best guy," Cincinnati interim manager PeteMackanin said. "He just didn't have it tonight. Three walksfrom him were unexpected. He just doesn't do that, but youcan't expect him to be as good as he's been every time out."

Kouzmanoff then hit the first pitch he saw from Victor Santosdeep into the seats in left to increase the lead to five.

Rookie Kevin Cameron (1-0), the seventh pitcher for Padres, earned his first major league victory by hurling two innings ofone-hit relief.

"It was nice," Cameron said. "I got a scare out of a couple offly balls, but I got through it. We got the win and I'll takeit anyway I can get it."

Black praised his bullpen even though the momentum changed acouple times.

"(Rookie Jack) Cassel did a great job. Cameron did a greatjob," Black said. "There is a learning curve especially on thepitching side. We know Kevin has a good arm and good stuff, butwe didn't want to rush him by putting him late in games. He'smastering some of that."

Hoffman was given the ball in the ninth with a 7-6 lead, butBrandon Phillips led off with a double into the left-centerfield gap. After Ken Griffey Jr. struck out, Scott Hattebergbelted a double off the left field wall to tie the game.

"Even Trev did a great job," Black said. "He gave up the runbut he got two big, big outs."

Hoffman sent the game to extra innings by getting EdwinEncarnacion and Alex Gonzalez to pop up with runners on firstand second.

Greene gave San Diego a 7-6 lead in the seventh with arun-scoring single off Jared Burton.

"When you play 140-150 games, there are a lot of times when youcome up with runners in scoring position and two outs," Greenesaid. "You don't want to overthink it. In my experience youdon't come through more often then not, but you have to do itconsistently. We used a lot of pitchers and they used a lot ofpitchers. No one was going to quit."

Cincinnati took an early lead on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Conineand an RBI single by Adam Dunn in the first inning. NorrisHopper plated a run in the second with a bunt single, extendingthe advantage to 3-0.
