ROME (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett and the new-look Boston Celticswere the "Big Ticket" overseas. Garnett had 19 points and 16 rebounds as the Celtics unveiledtheir much-hyped superstar troika with a 89-85 victory over thedefending Atlantic Division champion Toronto Raptors in thepreseason opener for both clubs on Saturday afternoon. Paul Pierce had 21 points and Ray Allen added 10 for theCeltics, who played their first game since re-tooling theirentire roster in an attempt to make a run at a title in the weakEastern Conference. Boston, which has not won an NBA championship in 22 years, finished with the second-worst record in the league last season.Expectations had been lowered for the Celtics, who also havenot been past the first round of the playoffs since 2002-03. But this campaign, Garnett is joined by sharpshooter Allen, whowas acquired in a draft-day trade with the Seattle SuperSonicsfor No. 5 overall pick Jeff Green. The duo joins captain Pierceto make Boston one of the frontrunners in the East. Garnett, a 10-time All-Star, brings instant credibility to the16-time world champion Celtics. And it showed as the squadtoured Rome and met with Italian dignitaries throughout theweek. But Boston's performance on the court drew the most attention. Garnett made his presence felt right away with an emphaticthree-point play just three minutes into the game. The formerMVP drove the baseline past hometown hero Andrea Bargnani andthrew down a reverse slam for an 11-5 lead. It was an early statement by Garnett, who unleashed histrademark glare in a game that was played with surprisingintensity early on. A close game throughout, Boston led for most of the fourthquarter but had its advantage cut to 88-85 on Juan Dixon's layupwith 1:59 left. But Celtics rookie Gabe Pruitt made aclinching free throw with six seconds left to provide the finalmargin. T.J. Ford had 15 points, Bargnani added 13 and All-Star ChrisBosh had 12 and nine rebounds for the Raptors, who will look tobuild on their first playoff appearance in five years.

Re: NBA: BOSTON at TORONTO Wow, this is nice. I really like how it kept updating after a couple of minutes and the box score at the end. Very nice. Oh and Perkins was obviously the key factor in this game.
Re: NBA: BOSTON at TORONTO Good game, kind of sloppy in my opinion. What I like, is that the Celtics didn't blow us out, so they aren't that amazing. Every time on of the big 3 had the ball, I would scream "Oh God!" until they gave it up. It's scary when they have it.

We can guard the Celtic big 3, and still have quality guys to guard Rondo, Perkins, Posey, House.
I just hope when it is time for the regular season, we guard Garnett way better and box him out more. His rebounds where getting out of hand. He is very good, but with Bosh and Bargnani we should of kept him to 12 or so.

Second Pierce will hold his own basically on anyone. The only player I see being able to defend Pierce is Artest.
Again, this was just an exhibition game, wait till the season starts, then you'll see the real Celtics.

I'm very sure that Parker will be able to slow down Pierce on some nights, and hold him to under 20. Garnett, yes can dominate, but Bosh had a bad game. And I cam remeber last year, when Garnett came to Toronto and Bargnani had to guard him during the second half, Bargnani shut him down. So, while he is dominate, he is still not unstoppable.
When the season starts you will also see the real Raptors. This was a close game, even with Garnett having a great game. This will be a close series, I think it will end in a 2-2 split.
