Travis Beckum had 122 receiving yards and a score for theBadgers (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten), who thwarted two potentialgame-tying drives by Michigan State in the final minutes.

"It was another example of a four-quarter game," Wisconsin coachBret Bielema said. "Playing in the Big Ten, you've got to beable to do those type of things. We didn't do everything rightto get things done towards the end of the game.

"We knew coming in to today that (Michigan State) was a goodfootball team and for us to be able to pull of the win speaksvolumes of (Wisconsin's) character and what they're able to doin fourth-quarter games."

Spartans kicker Brett Swenson missed a 53-yard field goal with3:17 left, and Michigan State turned the ball over on downs asBrian Hoyer's desperation fourth-down pass fell incomplete with1:07 remaining.

"Brett had been pretty good all day," new Michigan State coachMark Dantonio said. "He made them in practice. We had thewind. I felt he was good from 48 yards out in pregame."

The Spartans had yet to taste defeat under Dantonio, but theirnon-conference slate consisted of Alabama-Birmingham, BowlingGreen, Pittsburgh and winless Notre Dame.

In its Big Ten opener, Michigan State could not containWisconsin's offense, which racked up 457 yards and drove thefield when it mattered most.

"(The Spartans) competed and we're a little heartbroken but nottoo bad," Dantonio said. "We'll move the process forward. I'vesaid it before; we need proof to see where we are at as afootball team.

"We were looking for proof in terms of how we would respond uphere in Wisconsin, how we would play in a tough environmentagainst the No.9-ranked team."

The Badgers embarked on a nine-play, 64-yard drive to set up thego-ahead field goal - a 22-yard boot by Taylor Mehlhaff to snapa 34-34 tie with 6:15 left.

"My hat is off to (the offensive line)," Donovan said. "Theydid an excellent job giving me some time to get my eyesdownfield and make some throws. Guys were just stepping up. Ithink it was a culmination of every position today on offense."

Hill, who rushed for 155 yards on 34 carries, started thescoring with a five-yard plunge at the 10:11 mark of the openingquarter. He also added a one-yard score to make it 34-24 with9:14 left in the third.
