DALLAS (Ticker) -- Matthew Lombardi helped the Calgary Flamesfinally get a win in Dallas.

Lombardi tied the game midway through the third period andscored the game-winner at 3:20 of overtime as the Flames posteda 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Friday night.

It was the first victory for Mike Keenan as coach of the Flames, who won for the first time in Dallas since December 14, 2001 -a span of eight meetings.

"It was a really hard game, and I'm really proud of the way theteam played," Keenan said. "It was our best game for sure thisyear, on a consistent basis. We played against a great, confident team and we had to battle back twice from a goaldeficit and found a way to win.

"It was a high-intensity game, almost like a playoff game, whichis a compliment to both teams to play that hard at thisjuncture in the season."

After Lombardi tied the game with 9:14 left in the third period,he took advantage of Dallas captain Brenden Morrow's bad passand blasted a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circlepast goaltender Marty Turco to give Calgary the win.

"You don't expect that, and just to see that, I kind of justjumped on it," Lombardi said of the loose puck Morrow left forhim. "I didn't even know what kind of shot I was going to getoff. I just kind of got lucky, I think, and found the back ofthe net."

"There's nobody to blame but myself," Morrow said. "Our teamcounts on me to make good plays in situations like that, and itwas a bad play by me."

The Stars failed to capitalize on two third-period power plays,as well as a lengthy 5-on-3 advantage in the second that couldhave prevented the game from ever getting to overtime.

"In the third period, we had a couple of power plays we didn'tdo a lot with," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "When you gotan opportunity to put a team away and you don't do that, yougive the other team life. They came back and scored right afterour power play to get it to 2-2, so you'd have to say themomentum was on their side. You get it to overtime, and we handthem another gift."

"The power play has struggled," said Stars center Mike Modano, who scored his first goal of the season and 508th career in thefirst period. "There were times when it could have won us thegame. We had some great opportunities and didn't takeadvantage."

Modano got the Stars on the board early and moved within fourpoints of tying Phil Housley (1,232) for most by anAmerican-born player in NHL history.

Jussi Jokinen had the puck behind the net, and his pass outfront bounced off two different skates before ending up onModano's stick in the left circle, where he drilled a one-timeroff the left goalpost and in at 4:27 of the opening period.

Calgary captain Jarome Iginla tied it with just 21.6 secondsremaining in the opening period, unleashing a scorching wristshot from the top of the right circle that went between twoskaters' legs and over Turco's right shoulder.

Niklas Hagman, who scored a career-high 18 goals last season, continued his torrid pace with his fifth tally of this campaignfor the Stars at 9:05 of the second period.

The left wing put a blazing slap shot past netminder MiikkaKiprusoff from the top of the left circle to snap a 1-1 tie withjust four seconds remaining on a power play.

"When you're hot, the things go in for you," Tippett said ofHagman. "Keep shooting. It was a heck of a shot. I think itcaught the defenseman's stick a little bit, but it was still aheck of a shot. His speed creates things. He's around it allthe time.

"He's a real good player for us right now. We need some otherguys to step up to the level he's at right now."

In a battle of two of the NHL's best goalies, each of whom tookturns making excellent saves, Kiprusoff finished on top. Inbeating Dallas for the first time in his career, the Finn turnedaside 24 shots, while Turco finished with 23 saves.

"He made some solid saves tonight. That was his best game, aswell," Keenan said of Kiprusoff. "Both goalies were involved inthe game and made some tough stops at both ends."

"Against Turco, it's pretty fun to play because he's a goodgoalie, makes some huge saves and he's fun to watch," Kiprusoffsaid. "He handles the puck so well. I don't mean it's fun toplay because it's always a tough game, but he's a good goalie. He's a pretty skilled guy."
