    TORONTO (Ticker) -- Mats Sundin is on the verge of becoming theToronto Maple Leafs' all-time leading goal scorer. Against theMontreal Canadiens on Saturday, the Swedish captain displayedhis ability to set up tallies.


    Sundin collected his third assist of the game on defensemanTomas Kaberle's power-play goal in overtime as the Maple Leafsedged the Canadiens, 4-3.


    Tied with Darryl Sittler for first place on the franchise listwith 389 goals, Sundin climbed within one point of pulling evenwith the Hall of Famer for Toronto's all-time points lead.Sittler collected 916 points during his stellar career with theMaple Leafs.


    Sundin picked up his third assist of the game with 1:34remaining in overtime. With Montreal defenseman FrancisBouillon serving a holding penalty, Kaberle dished down low toSundin in the left corner.


    Kaberle received a return pass and fired the puck between thepads of goaltender Cristobal Huet from above the left faceoffcircle for the victory.


    The win was Toronto's first of the season and the 2,500th in thehistory of the club.


    Defenseman Mathieu Dandenault, who was playing at right wing ona line with Bryan Smolinski and Steve Begin, got the scoringstarted in the battle of the "Original Six" clubs, knocking in aloose puck that bounced around on the doorstep at 2:43 of thefirst period.


    Toronto drew even less than two minutes later as blue-liner IanWhite blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle justinside the left goalpost at 4:34 for his first goal of theseason.


    With the Maple Leafs on the power play six minutes into themiddle session, Chris Higgins completed a pass from the leftcorner to defenseman Andrei Markov, who beat goaltender VesaToskala high to the glove side with a wrist shot from the slotfor a shorthanded tally and a 2-1 edge for the Canadiens.

    Andrei Kostitsyn increased the advantage with 3:27 remaining inthe second, but Huet made a costly error less than 2 1/2 minuteslater to allow Toronto to close the gap.


    From the left side of the net, Huet attempted to wrap the puckaround the boards. But it took an unfortunate bounce off theend boards, allowing Sundin to gain possession and feed AlexeiPonikarovsky, who beat an unsettled Huet from the slot with 70seconds left to pull the Maple Leafs within 3-2.


    Another turnover early in the third resulted in another tally byToronto. Markov coughed up the puck in the right circle toSundin, who set up Ponikarovsky in the slot for his second goalof the game at 2:55, knotting the contest.
