let the record show; i haven't trashed him...

BUT, this is the BLAZER board, and he plays for the CELTICS. So let's not get into the hypotheticals!

    Nuff said. ;)

If you were from Yugoslavia, you would be defending the actions taken in Kosovo. :devilwink:

Garnett wasn't a Celtic until last year.

I don't mind a guy trying to intimidate another player. IMO he just goes about it the wrong way. Bump a guy, give him a hard foul but don't act like an idiot clapping in the guys face. On top of that I can't recall him ever doing it to one of the bigger players, it's always one of the guards. I hope Pryz knocks him on his ass when we play them.

Garnett has all the talent to be one of the best players ever. I have always thought that what was keeping him from being that was between his ears. Intimidation is part of the game. If someone lets it bother them... you can bet they will keep seeing it. I was worried about Oden... still am... I think people will be able to get him off his game by running right at him. Word on Roy is to just manhandle him and it will get to him. They do and it does.

Whoops... back to Garnett. He has freakish talent... could dominate in every aspect of the game... yet he really doesn't. He is a very very good player... but it seems as thought he should be even better with the skills he has.

to me it's like the old jailblazer days, i don't really care what these guys do off the court as long as their not breaking the law. to my knowledge garnett has never done anything major off the court. all i look at is the on the court stuff and he's a player i'd love if he was on the blazers but hate on any another team.

i'd agree that i'd love to see him try this crap against some of the bigger guys in the league.

I want to like the guy but he just acts like an ass on the court and fades when the game is on the line. The best way to deal with guys like that are to throw it right back in their face. Again I'm not direspecting his game because the guy is one of the best players in the NBA. I just think picking shit with smaller guys is a sign of being a puss!

I dont hate how good he is. Hell of a Ball player. Just his blatant disprespect for his opponent is what bothers me.. he obvioiusly by how hard he plays loves the game of basketball. But how he disrespects his opponents is classless and disrespectful to the game he loves.

I like the Bill Simmons article last year on ESPN2 with his theory of getting reps. In order to be great in pressure situations you have to get the reps or experience of being in those situations. Most of these HS to the pro's players never had that. They were too damn good in HS to face any real pressure and they were drafted by bad teams where they didn't see the playoffs or like Jermaine O'Neal in Portland, didn't see the playing time. How many of these HS players have been successful in a team aspect?
Only Kobe comes to mind and he had one of the greatest coaches of all time put him in playoff pressure situations and take and airball shots vs the Jazz early in his career. He also had the luxory of having the best and most dominant player in the league on his team in Shaq to alleviate some of the pressure.

I think KG never really had the proper mentor (coach or great player) to help him grow in that aspect of his game. Had he gone to college, he would have experienced the pressure via conference playoffs at the very least and most likely March Madness. That's why I think it's great that the NBA is not longer drafting HS players.

I also think with the great playoff experience that KG had last year, he'll step up more in this year's playoffs when things get tight.

granted it could look like that, but the Celtics were also playing flat, not scoring well, not stopping the Raptors and perhaps he did it as a motivational move for his team mates who did pick up the defensive pressure after the incident.

Is KG a tad cheesy with his 'intensity'? Absolutely.
Is he a phoney baloney about it? Absolutely not, it's who he is, he's been that way since day one.

It's easy to see how it becomes annoying though, especially when you look like an ungracious winner as opposed to be an trying really hard loser like he was in Minny.

Good post obviously coming from a Celtics fan it would be easy to be offended (which wasn't my intention). I have the utmost respect for how hard the guy plays just don't like the cheesy taunting of the opposition. Get in there head but at least do it like an adult. Reminds me of something I would have done to my little brothers back when I was in middle school. BTW another guy I hated was Danny Ainge until he became a Blazer......funny how you appreciate them when they are on your team.

yeah I miss the old "What did I do" face that danny would make after EVERY call against him. :D

I think of KG like those NFL Linebackers that go into a Zone of yakking and phsycing themselves up and playing at 100mph ever second they're on the field.
He just does it and can't really play any other way.

    KG = Ray Lewis :D
