What is your case? I thought it was that there aren't ANY. Apparently it's that there are only a few. That's not exactly bold.
What we have is a team with 1 very very good player 1 very good scorer 1 excellent defensive big man 1 excellent defensive wing Then a bunch of youngish players, all of whom could be good if given a chance. It's not like there's a big gap between player #8 and player #9. That gap exists between player #4 and player #5 and you can't run a 4 man rotation. Nobody's saying we have 10 equally good players that should get equal time. But any cut-off at 8 will be arbitrary.
Which is the excellent defensive big man? Zach Nurkic? or Jusuf Collins? ........................or do we have 2 defensive big men?
Well, I finished reading Page 1. Curry and Stauskas are 5th-year players. Trent knows nothing, and will not play as a rookie. Nope. Yup. Nope. Yup. Yup. Nope.
Agreed. Zach's way ahead for a 20 year old big who's still a ways away from his physical peak though. And it was also his first experience guarding the perimeter full time. Considering all that, he was very impressive on that end. Added strength and playing more 5 is only going to help him too.
Speaking of some articles...Gary Trent Sr. had a wide body like Tractor Traylor. Writers who haven't seen Jr. describe him as if he looks like his father (I expected it, too), but he has a slimmer body. I'll read Page 2 sometime before Jr. retires.
Billups thinks GTj is made for the NBA. He's talked him real good during the summer league and stated several times that he though he was a steal with the second pick.
Daddy has been training Jr for the NBA pretty much his whole life. He will be ready to contribute from day one. Whether he gets the opportunity is another matter. Curry and Stauskas will both have to fail spectacularly for him to get a shot imo. CJ and Turners spots are secure with the second unit, no matter what we think.
I think it going to come down who play the best defensive between Nik and Trent. Both can shoot the ball so that a washh. So it will be a good battle in training camp next month.
There could be more than that. I don't think the player will be just a corner three shooter. Cutting to the basket and finishing will matter too
Yes, selectively. A true shooting threat who can drive when the defender over-closes would be perfect. I would imagine whoever hits a good 3pt% with no conscience (lots of attempts) will have the advantage though.
My hopes for Trent are probably too high. He is great size for a 2, took 6.5 3pt attempts per game at Duke (not afraid to shoot), and looks to have enough athleticism to guard and has at least decent handles and court vision. Also seems very motivated. It would be so great to see a Dame-sized chip on his shoulder to show he should have been a lottery pick.
