Really. Holy matrimony is between a man and a woman. So what? Our country was founded with a creator in mind, one who blessed our nation. Here's an enlightening book if you really want to know so what: http://www.amazon.com/The-Harbinger-Ancient-Mystery-Americas/dp/161638610X
IF MEN = WOMEN, I should be able to freely use the shower in the women's changing room at the swimming pool without any repercussions at all. they be sexist.
I'm not saying they're outright persecuting churches. I know enough gay people upset with the church, complaining, protesting, etc. They want to be included. I'm just saying don't join, or try to join, groups that see differently than you or don't accept you. Don't protest against them unless they're actively protesting you or trying to infringe on your American Rights.
I get what you're saying, and I often sit in your chair. I've gone to gay rallies, parades, etc with friends. They all love and accept my perspective. Most of my gay friends totally agree. They want their freedom and equality as far as American Rights. Beyond that, they accept religion for what it is. They seek religion that aligns with their beliefs and accept them. Don't force you religion on me, don't force your blackness or Asian-ness or gay-ness on me. We're all equal. If I choose a religion, I choose a religion. If I choose a club, I choose a club. Or a gang. Or a cult. Or whatever. Those are sometimes exclusive. As long as they don't degrade me, persecute me, harm me, I don't give a flying F. Yeah, easy for big, whitey to say? Just tired of being pushed on. It's like the Trayvon Martin thing. People claim it's racism abound. What about the white baby shot in the face "for fun" by two black teens. We don't have a Sharpton or Jackson reppin' white folk. That's be racist. I'm just saying, as far as the American level goes, let's exist, let's love, let's accept, and let's be at peace with one another. We are all we got.
quote "I'm just saying, as far as the American level goes, let's exist, let's love, let's accept, and let's be at peace with one another. We are all we got." repped
"This" is not all I've got....and that's my hope. Certainly doesn't diminish my obligation/directive/responsibility to love others as myself, though.
Well I'm certainly not relying on this board as my reference to "this I all we got". Sheesh. Tough crowd.
When I was younger I was more direct (rude) towards religious people who tried to push their beliefs on me. Street preachers and door to door evangelists would hear the most blasphemous things I could say. Now, I've mellowed. I don't like their religions being thrust my way, but I have accepted this is their country too, and I value their rights to believe and mine not to. I say I'm not interested an politely close the door or walk away, but no need to be militant. Likewise, for those of you who are less than pleased with LGBT's being able to marry, I suggest you look at it the same way I have grown to look at what I consider the overly pushy religious. LGBT's are part of our society and deserve to get equal treatment under the law. Politely don't attend their weddings, but walk away and let them have the freedom being an American entitles them to.
Wrong. The Constitution says "we the people" are the highest authority. No creator. No blessing. The fact that fundamentalists say otherwise and even make up quotes from founders does not change things. Read the Constitution. Equal rights and no god. Are you the arbiter of what is "holy"? Appointed by whom? I keep hearing about the "white baby shot for fun". The alleged perpetrators were arrested and charged with murder. There were weeks of protests before Zimmerman was arrested. Sharpton et al have talked about violence within the African-American community for years. If you want any credibility, Blazer Prophet, don't parrot talking points.
Thomas Jefferson was agnostic at the very least. The "Under God" was added to the pledge of allegiance in the 50s or 60s. Treaty of Tripoli:
Correct, Eastoff. The book referenced (I did look it up) was some person with, so far as I can tell, no particular credentials claiming to reveal some "ancient mystery" that the rest of the planet is apparently unaware of that proves, in his mind anyway, that the U.S. was created as a Christian country. Which no doubt means hate gays and force women to have babies.
The Bible tells us Divorce is wrong! STOP THE DIVORCE! WHY DOES GOD PUNISH US? Because we have over 50% divorce rate in the country!!!! :MARIS61: We need to offset these divorces with more marriages, and if same sex couples want to help by getting opposite couple married to same sex partners, then that is a step in the right direction!
Not to mention eating bacon (refer to vegan thread). Mixed fiber clothing. And be sure to kill your disobedient children. Shit, the human species would die out if people killed their disobedient children! Or at least those who follow the bible! Of course the bible also says "sell all that thou hast and give to the poor". Funny, you never hear about those megachurch millionaire preachers doing that!
If any of the religious people really want to solidify their eternal trip, "sell all that thou hast and give it to..." me. an atheist. Who is poorer, at least spiritually, than an atheist. Sure, some poor might not have a roof over their heads, but at least god can still look down on them and smile. Me, nothing. All I've got is science to keep me company as I peer off into eternity. So, sell your car, sell your computer, your house, all your goods, and send the cash to me.
