Islam. Religion of Peace! Sorry to hit home, but I find that kind of language bigotry. No matter if the person who wrote it is ignorant. And they are treating all Muslims the same based upon their narrow view.
Go find some YouTube clips. I hate to say it, but he was very funny. He wasn't violent in his views, but almost vulgar in his blunt racist, sexist, everything else ist lines. Realize he was an actor, the person fictitious (but believable). The show ran for many years. It was a huge hit. It spun off the Jeffersons, one of TVs first mostly black casts and subject matter. Also a great and funny show, with George Jefferson being almost as bad as Bunker with all the "whitey" type insults and the portrayal of the white characters as morons.
Wash Co Scanner @WashCoScanner 4s Guy in Forest Grove, naked, but doesn't think he's naked - WB on Pacific So is he naked or not naked?
Interestingly, a couple posters are arguing that calling somebody a man is insulting, but calling them a male is not.
When I say "he" or "she" I'm not talking about their gender. I'm talking about their sex. I really think this "gender" bullshit is just that, bullshit. Sent from my banana using Tapatalk 4
Blazinggiants, you asked a question of hoojacks, crandc and me, but I'm just checking in now, so here's what I think. I'm fine with the stance you presented. I would prefer being around people who are fully accepting of others being able to choose their gender or sexual preference, but just being nice is really all I ask. The issue I had was, not as much in this thread as in the last transgender thread, I felt people were taking their personal beliefs and yelling it, trying to offend others. The way El Pres for example worded some of his posts was meant (in my opinion) to be as vulgar and rude as possible to those who care about this subject. And although we don't know of any transgendered people reading these boards, it's very possible there are. There is a comedian named Todd Glass, he's 48 years old, and he just came out as gay about a year ago. I was listening to a podcast where he was being interviewed and he said something that struck me. He said he came out mainly because he kept reading about gay youth committing suicide because they felt so ostracized by society. One of his examples was to go on any website or video game with open chat and FA£ was being hurled at everyone! and he remembered how he felt s a boy when his brothers and friends would call him that, ostracized. So, part of defending transgendered people on this board for me is I wonder, what if there is a trans teen who loves the Blazers too. I want the post they read from me to let them know there are communities who will love and respect them.
I guess the thing that bothers me, is, it's not like I'd just be playing nice. I'm cool with whatever and however people view themselves. But why can't I still view someone as their biological sex (assuming they haven't had surgery) when that person maybe doesn't? Why does the person and I have to agree with what they are? Why would we have to have the conversation? Why can't the person and I agree to disagree with love? I'm sure if this person were to become a close friend, my feelings may be altered. But I'm a man of science. Much of my world view comes from science. Why can't we both be right? Why can't my world view be from what I know and believe, but I can still accept the person as they are? I feel like you guys all say there's only one perspective that can be right, but I'm saying I disagree with you guys on that. That's where I feel I'm not being heard or you guys don't understand me.
There sure seems to be a whole lot of science that you're overlooking. Even if you discount psychology as a science (I don't). It's not like you have to dissect experimental subjects to find out about it. You can actually ask the people. It clearly occurs in some % of the population and that can be measured. They all tell the same stories (woman trapped in a man's body, etc). But... Start with WikiPedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_transsexualism Then read these http://www.newscientist.com/article...rences-caught-on-brain-scan.html#.Uk4sPxYRxMU http://www.popsci.com/scitech/artic...ranssexual-gene-raises-more-questions-answers http://www.science20.com/news_artic...ve_been_asset_some_ancestral_societies-121619 http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2008/11/a-boys-life/307059/ EDIT: Again, once you realize this is a civil rights issue, the "alternative opinion" thing just doesn't make sense.
It's just ironic that several people have basically been told they're off and close-minded by people that believe there's only one right/opinion/reality.
LOL. Kind of an interesting story, but you're better off avoiding the google images if this stuff makes you uncomfortable.
OK, BG, let's try the civil rights angle a different way. Sly tried this already, but you ducked it. Is there more than one right/opinion/reality when it comes to black people deserving equal rights? For a black man and white woman to marry? Etc.? If there is only one right/opinion/reality there, then why can't there be when it comes to mexicans, transgenders, gays, and other groups denied equal treatment in public places?
You showed me one side of science. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong. I never have. You're the one beating you're chest like there's one right or wrong and you're right. It's quite laughable, really. No disrespect intended.
I'm not talkin civil rights and I never have in this entire conversation. Now you're dragging me into a civil rights conversation. I'm ducking nothing.
I believe what the transgendered person tells me about her situation. why is your truth about her more valid than her own? That's laughable, right?
