I'm with you on this one DaRizzle. I also believe there was no intent to hurt Wallace. I wish we could get Greg or LaMarcus to foul hard like that. I am not saying to commit flagrant fouls, just to foul hard, just make them earn it.

"Collapsed lung" sound pretty fucking serious, but I remember our running back for BSU (Ian Johnson) had a partially collapsed lung, and he actually finished the game with it (100 yards, 2 tds). He missed one game and then was back in action.

I initially thought that way too. But then you have to picture Oden accidently bodying a Memphis scrub, and Memphis holding that player out due to "injury" the rest of the season just to screw with Portland. You know someone would abuse the rule. I wouldn't be opposed to the League looking at the initial doctor's report and assessing a suspension the same length as the injury is estimated to last. Guys would do more wrapping up and less hip checking.

I just read he probably won't be out of the hospital until tomorrow. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/story/501143.html

When I was born one on my lungs collapsed. No big deal... but then later in that day my other lung collapsed pushing my heart to the other side of my chest. An intern ended up taking a scalpel and cutting me open to relieve the air pressure built up in my chest as my body had turned blue. I made it! I had an ex gf who broke two of her ribs and it sucks. There is really nothing you can do to make them feel better. Whenever you move it pretty much flexes them. I say we trade for wallace now because the bobcats might be willing to trade him if they feel like he will be out for a while and need some instant help.

Yeah, a stupid foul, a flagrant foul, but not a malicious foul. When you go up high like that, you don't have anything keeping you upright if something hits you. I don't villainize Bynum for this. Only for being a Laker.

Looks 100% intentional to me. What a sleaze.

I'd like to see Bynum out for the rest of the year, or at the very least suspended without pay for as long as Wallace is out.

Wallace should sue him for assault and battery.

Bynum = 100% stupid, just like when he took out Greg in the first game of the year. Somebody needs to tell the kid that just cus he's a laker you can't play cheap. :tsktsk:

Oden vs. Bynum is the west coast feud of the future, Can't wait to dominate those damn polluted LA lakers

1 game suspension should be enough

What? Are you saying Memphis may do something underhanded to harm Portland?

On second thought, you're 100% right. I didn't even consider your points when I posted what I'd like to see.

I agree. There is no way in hell I would trust Stern/Jackson with that kind of arbitrary power!

About a month ago, Hollinger was being interviewed (by the game or quick) and was asked about possible Blazer trades, I remember he mentioned some other SF would be a good fit for the Blazers. The interviewer brought up the idea of Wallace who Hollinger thought was not the best fit for the Blazers because of his contract and health issues.

I disagreed with him back then (both on the contract and health issues) . . . but maybe Hollinger was spot on with health concerns. It does seem like Wallace has a hard time staying healthy.

It's not that he can't stay healthy because he's some kind of fragile guy (ie. a player who gets hurt in "normal" play) it's the way he plays -- they don't call him "Crash" for nothing" -- He runs around on the court like a free safety and completely sacrifices his body in way 95% of the rest of they guys in the league won't/don't.

I love his game, but I have a feeling the guy's career is going to be cut very short.

/driving their elbow through someone's ribs when they've a clear path to the hoop

Anyway, of course teams will seek to use any angle they can to make the rules work for them, I suggested a 10 game cap on this to prevent the sort of sandbagging you're referring to. The idea wouldn't be to cripple a team, but to discourage the cheap shots/dirty play that injures guys. There is no faking broken bones though which I would imagine would be 99% of the sort of injuries that would warrant this punishment
