Like everyone else in the east, he probably wants to go to Miami. Or perhaps he'll try and hook on with da Bulls.

What he is probably protecting himself against is an injury. His thinking is it better to take a guarentee contract for 12-14 million than take the gamble he doesn't suffer a career ending injury.

Yes he could pocket 10 million and then sign a contract the next year . . . and that would probably get him more money if he doesn't get injuried. But at his age, I doubt he wants to take that risk. Get as much guarenteed money as you can at this point is probably what his agent and Wallace are thinking.

OR, maybe he thinks he has enough money and wants to try for a title in his last few years.

Funny, I didn't think of that. Maybe because when I think of Wallace, I don't see that being his priority . . . but you are right, that could be the driving motivation behind this. When talking about life choices, it is hard to really say what people have as a top priority.

Wallace is from a tiny town in Alabama. With the Nets having a shitty team around him, I'm sure he especially doesn't want to live in Brooklyn.

That wouldn't explain his stated unwillingness to play on a 1-year deal, unless he's simply unwilling to play for NJ and doesn't want to come out and say it.

Trading the #6 to rent a player like Gerald Wallace for a quarter season sucks, no matter how you slice it.

Nets management may over pay to keep Wallace at this point so they don't look any dumber than they already do for giving up the 6th pick. If we end up getting someone who is perceived as a really good player, they are going to feel the pressure. GW is in a good spot to get a decent 3 year gig. 25 million?
