It turns out that getting run over by a car is not fun. I was walking home last night and a car turned left across Belmont and hit me on 34th. They drove off like the drunken cowards that they are and left me in the street. Luckily, I am alive and nothing is broken. I actually worked a 9 hour shift tonight and made it through. My knee is definitely popping every time I pivot hard, but other than that, I made it out ok. Anyone else having shitty luck?
Not to brag, but I am tougher than I thought. A car physically ran over my body and nothing broke. It is my goal in life to track that fucker down.
Haha. I certainly didn't feel like a super hero at work today. But, I did get 400 in sympathy tips! hehe
I'm glad you're ok, the wife and I almost got hit in Portland 15 years ago. We were leaving Saturday Market and heading back to th parking lot. Got to a crosswalk and all 3 lanes of traffic stopped. Almost got across and a Mercedes flew right by us and almost hit us. Got to the parking lot and the Mercedes was there at the ticket booth and I went up to murder someone and there was a 90 year old woman in the car who looked like she was having an Alzheimers episode. She would have killed us but didn't only by luck. I learned that day to NEVER trust anyone in a car when I'm a pedestrian. I look at the cars when I cross and I look behind to make sure someone isn't going to rearend them and make them hit me. It sounds paranoid until you get hit or almost get hit.
Dang bro you are a lucky man. Well... Considering that you were incredibly unlucky to be blessed with some asshole hitting you
Glad to hear you're okay! plan on seeing a doctor? It may take a few days before the real pain sets in. I blame Olshey.
Also, NEVER trust anyone in a car when you are a bicyclist. There are a lot of people driving who should not be driving. In my line of work we see several people hit by motorists. People simply crossing the crosswalk, riding their bicycle in the bicycle lane, or even a person unlocking their car in a parking lot and then struck by a motorist. Don't even get me started on Death Race 2000 known as our Freeways!
Dang prune, glad you are overall alright. I don't understand how someone can do that shit. I'd feel bad enough hitting someone, but if I took off without finding out if they were okay I would have a guilty conscience the rest of my life. Best wishes as you continue to recover. Let us know if you find the guy, we can hold him down while you kick.
I have been there and it is not fun. When I was 15 I was crossing powell at about 53rd or so. I was crossing on one of those unmarked crosswalks without a light. The cars in the first lane had stopped for me. There was about a dozen cars behind it, so I couldn't see the other lane. I crossed knowing the cars in the first lane were waiting, trying to be curtious. I figured hey, if there is a car in the other lane, they will see 12 cars stopped, use logic, and come to the conclusion that some one was crossing the street. Nope. I got hit by a car going 30 mph...wemt over the hood, somehow broke off the driver's side mirror, flipped and landed ass first on the back door leaving an add print before I bounced off hit the ground and somehow my body naturally tucked itself into a roll....I was told this by my friends who were crossing behind me, as I blacked out till after I hit the ground and rolled. I crawled to the side of the road. The car stopped up ahead several feet. The driver gets out, a woman, looks at her car, looks at me, looks back at her car, looks at me and says I shit you not "Oh my God my car!" I didn't break any bones somehow but I was bruised to fuck. And I'll tell you it is not fun. So @theprunetang I am sorry man, and that they drove off is even more so fucked. I did sue (my parents did on my behest) had a crappy lawyer, so I got my hospital bills paid, but that is about it. Lets just say when I cross the street these days I don't fuck around.
