If you're not going to start him to avoid losing him to a long rain delay, you shouldn't then make him pitch and then still bring him in after a long rain delay. He's too important to the team both now and in the next ten to fifteen years. The Zito contract is really going to hamper the team for the next six years. He's not pitching well at all. He got booed at the home opener, and he deserves it. The curveball works fine but his fastball is two or three miles an hour too slow to be an effective pitcher. I really wish the team wouldn't shove the whole rebuilding thing down the fans throats. As long as the old guys are still playing everyday, and young kids aren't at those same positions, they're satisfied being a last place team that can't compete. Don't tell us you're building a great future.
You're totally right. Sabean fucked the whole situation up really bad. Year after year he kept trying to sign veterans and did no work on the farm system and year after year we got worse and worse. Now we're horrible, have one half-decent prospect (excluding pitchers) in Velez and not much to look forward to in the relatively near future. There isn't much chance we dump Zito unless we eat most of his salary. Hopefully Dave Roberts is gone soon as well. BTW where is Schierholtz? He was a decent hitter last year, I'd like to see us dump Roberts, Aurelia, and Wynn and let Fred Lewis, Rajai Davis, Nate Scheirholtz, Ortmeier, and Velez get a ton of burn. If we're gonna suck might as well go all out (all season lol).
Schierhotlz didn't even make the club. They sent him down to the minors b/c he was one of the few guys that had options.
