I think Girardi will be the next captain if Cally is dealt.

I think he's already decided he wants to play for his "hometown" team up in Buffalo. Thats the only think I can think of. His ridiculous demands ensured that no other team was going to sign him when Sather allowed other teams to talk to him.

I bet he signs with Minnesota this summer. They have a ton of cap space with only 4 players to sign, plus guys like Parise, Suter and Pominville who he knows well. Buffalo has a long way to go, he'd never win another SC there i don't believe.

Lot of people seem to think Minn. is going to splurge on Vanek. Wont be room for Cally at his price.

Or maybe Staal if he signs an extension this summer.

I don't see McDonagh as the next captain. I cannot see them taking him from no letter, no major leadership role, and making him captain just like that.

To me it will be Staal or Girardi, and I say Girardi unless Staal signs an extension by next season.

As for Cally, I kind of want him out now also rather than give in and sign him for big money. To me even 6 mill for a cap hit is too much for the kind of player he is, and no shot the cap hit is less than that. I guess if it was 6 mill TOPS I could live, but 6 years for 36 mill for Cally just seems like a bad deal IMO. Too many years and too much money per.

    This says it all:

I don’t think it changes much with Ryan Callahan unless he softens his stance. Last I checked today he wanted upwards of $7 million. He won’t get that from the Rangers, won’t get that from TB and I would be shocked if he got that on the open market. (Darren Dreger on TSN Drive)

Steve Simmons asked Dreger if Ryan Callahan owned a mirror to which Dreger replied, “It’s a tough one. Steve, you know he is a good hockey player, but is he a $6.75 million dollar player, not even close. I don’t mind the heart and soul label though it’s grossly overplayed at times. He is a take it in the teeth kind of guy. He will block shots, do whatever it takes to win, but when you are doling out close to $7 million you need to be an offensive difference maker and he is not.” (Darren Dreger on TSN Drive)

I think I take him for 6 yrs at 6m. I dont do it willingly, and I'm not happy about it but I think I still do it. It's hard to describe.

I agree Prod. Tops I go 6 mill as a cap hit, but I don't feel great about it. I would live like I said, but wouldn't love it.
