<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trip:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes I would, if that good player is the best at his position. Yao will be and is instrumental to our team's success, and if we don't keep him, I don't think we can get better. Frankly, who can we trade Yao for? His contract is not large enough to get a player of his caliber, and I honestly don't like getting 5 draft picks in return for him. The revenue he brings alone is irreplaceable.</div>
I would trade him for 3-5 first round draft, just like nets did for Martin. Or we cantrade him together with someone we want to kick out, such as Mo Taylor for a decent player, such as Odom or Pau Gasol.

If we trade Yao for picks, it would take another five years to rebuild. By then, McGrady would have been over his peak and we'd be in an even worse situation than now. I don't think that that would be wise either. If we get Gasol, we'd have no center once Mutombo retires, and Odom would not be very good either. Our team wants a championship, not to be like the Lakerrs.

Yeah, I don't think the management would really want to start all over again. We need to utilise the talent that we have now and that means using the talents of our inside outside combo of TMac and Yao. We've these 2 as our core, building around them with good, solid role players and good draft picks will get us closer to winning that championship.

It may take sometime but it is definitely possible. So there's really no use in trading Yao as he is one of the main ingredients in our bid to win that trophy. In the last 2 games, Yao seems to be stepping up and was more aggresive in his scoring and rebounding. He has scored 20+ points these past 2 games and that will give him some much needed confidence. It also helped that he didn't fould as much as in the past and that means more minutes. That could only help the team become better.

If he keeps up this new found confidence regularly and on a game to game basis, I have no doubt in my mind that we will become a contender, not a pretender.

Just a note, alot of people know but don't notice, Yao Ming is the second best starting center statwise, only behind Shaquille O'Neal, and he is possibly a hall of famer!, Yao averages 18 ppg and 8rpg people are already calling him the next Shawn Bradley, calling him a bust, Yao is barely even 25!. Yao is probably the greatest player over 7'5 to play in the NBA, how is that a bust? the issue may be that he's overrated, in which I would agree to, but I believe in a year or two where he's more comfortable in the US BBall system, he could be alot better.

Tell China to cut him loose, and you will probably see a new Yao Ming who is willing to play physical. I doubted Yao in his rookie year like Charles Barkley, but hey I won't doubt the guy ever again after seeing some of the stuff the guy does that no other player his size could do. He really needs some Kelvin Cato type help for defense on the weakside and rebounding and a new buddy like Steve Francis to keep him motivated. The team chemistry doesn't really seem to be there for the Rockets this year, and also what puzzles me is the trade for T-Mac. The offense was more open court this year than last when JVG likes to run half court sets a lot more and focus on defense and running the ball through Yao. It seems that JVG doesn't have "his" players yet. So I question whether the T-mac move was a good move made for the team (because they added Juwon Howard, Lue, and other players the Rox basically already had). Or was it just to look good on paper and sell more tickets? Frankly, I think the Houston Rockets were better off with Steve Francis, a legit backup center like Cato, and then trade Mobley for a glue guy that can play defense and chip in points and pass. And wouldn't you know it my favorite candidate, Doug Christie comes into play with the Orlando Magic. I think I had an old thread in here that mentions that the Rox should have tried to deal for Christie and maybe get a backup power forward. Or if they wanted to bolster the front court even more they could offer Francis, Nachbar for Elton Brand and Marko Jaric. Then they could trade Mobley for somebody that can run a half court set as a point guard.

I dunno, I'm sure those trades were discussed, but I think the Rox lost a lot of value with those players because those two happened to play defense and they got a power forward tweener that is basically similar to Mo Taylor, an open court point guard, and they lost a legit backup center, a starting shooting guard that is a good 3 point shooter, and Steve Francis, a point guard that still has a lot of upside left to be a dominant point guard if he starts being less selfish.
