QUOTE (aquaitious)

You'vecompletelymissedthepointandarearguinigwith"Wherearetheseplayersnow?"

    Great,where'sLarryBirdnow?WherewillRayAllen,PaulPierceandKGbefiveyearsfromnow?

    Heck,maybeweshouldnotevenplaythegameofbasketballandjustkeepasking"wherearetheseplayersnow?"

But for the hell of it, if you must know:

Rodney Rogers went to the finalsandtheECFsemi-finals the two years after he left the Celtics, with the Nets.Postingnumbersof7pointsand4rebounds,and8pointsand4.4rebounds,respectively,injust20minutesofplay.

Thefollowingyear,ErickStricklandposted6.5pts,3assistsand2reboundsinjust18minutesofplay. Kenny Anderson did roughly the same the next two season.

Were they all-stars? Definetely not, were they good role-players? You betcha!

Yet, that was not my point, farfromit.

I understand that Danny was not here when we lost Rogers, Strickland and Anderson (and I hated Anderson, by the way) and we had Gaston as our owner, the whole freaking point was: There is no evidence to support that the team "had peaked" and would not have achieved the same as they did if they had added talent.
They weren'tabletokeep significant players and lost to a MUCH superior New Jersey Net team in 03/04.

You missed my point. Or made it. We did not trade anything away at the time that was any big loss. You could argue that losing Walker was a loss (I say it was a huge bonus) but that's about it.

QUOTE (aquaitious)

So this was the plan all along? Get a very young team and trade them all to get KG and Ray Allen in the 2007/08 season. Great job Danny, thanks! Great decision on not to "win now" and "rebuild" and then four years later we go back to "win now" mode. That's a great, great plan. I wish I could predict the future like this also.

The plan - as stated many many many times - was to get rid of fat and then stockpile youth and picks to either keep or trade. Some youth we kept - some we traded. So yes, it was the plan all along.

QUOTE (aquaitious)

How do you "overachieve" in a "weak conference?" How does that make sense? We had two all-stars that year (even ifyou believe we only had one, the choaches voted Antoine in) that carried this team on their shoulders.

    Asfaras"peaked"pleaseshowmehowtheydidso.BecauseI'dreallylovetoseesomefactsofthat.

Again you are making my point. Even for a weak conference, they went further than they should have. They then got beat by the Nets who got swept in the finals.

So please tell me - since we had no cap space, no youth, and little to trade aside from Pierce and Walker that would of brought back anything of value in return - what would of been your plan?

I actually believe we're arguing two different things.

So yes, it was the plan all along.
Perkins, Tony Allen, Leon Powe and Rondo. At least two of those weren't able to be traded. I also remember Danny saying he's trying to get an athletic team to build around Pierce. Not necessarily to trade the whole team. But if this was the plan all along, I should to Danny about some Lottery Numbers...
Again you are making my point. Even for a weak conference, they went further than they should have. You do agree that those Nets were THE best team in the East, right? Also, while the east was weak, why not use that to our advantage?

I don't know CW, it's hard to say what I would have done since things are down now, but the NBA works in mysterious ways. For example, this past summer we were able to get Ray Allen for Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and a pick. Then later for Al Jefferson and Gomes (and garbage we did not want) we were able to land Kevin Garnett. What would have I done? Either rebuild (trade Walker AND Pierce) or build around them. There were some pretty darn good players we could have gotten with high picks (if we didn't have Pierce and Walker), we had some expiring contracts (to go along Pierce and Walker) which we could have used, and some picks to add someone.
