Growing up I hated the Lakers until the age of 16. However now that I've got older, and my basketball IQ has gone up. I don't hate the Lakers anymore. I will even root for them in certain games... like the one they played last night vs my most hated team. I'm in the minority of Blazer fans who don't hate Kobe. But I also don't hate The Big Ticket. Never have, never will.
I hate Laker fans a million times more than I will ever have the team itself and I do hate the team a lot. Also our meltdown playoff game against Lakers changed me as a basketball fan in a bad way and I will never forgive LAL for that. With all of that said my love of the Blazers is stronger than my hatred of the Lakers could ever be and as a result I will also root for whatever benefits the Blazers outside of Blazer games themselves. I just try my best to root for the other team to lose more than the Lakers to win
Agree with the first part. As for the second: As is the case every season, I, like Mark Cuban, want the Lakers to suck. But I don't want them to suck enough to get a top 10 draft pick, or worse a top 5 pick, or heaven forbid the No. 1 pick. They need to suck just enough to be late lottery. That means they have to win a few games here and there to ensure their continued sucktitude. And a game against the Rockettes, or Blunder, or Clip Show is the perfect time for them to pull one out of Kobe's ass. Go Flakers. This time.
I yelled "Go Lakers" at home last night. My 8-year old daughter asked me "who are you and what did you do with my daddy?" [she knows purple and gold are not allowed to touch in our house and understands why]
Its safe to root for the Lakers because if they win some more games and climb up to get the 6th worst record in the league their draft pick goes to Phoenix. I can think of no happier scenario.
Me too. And sometimes they have to win, to lose. Like losing a battle to win the war. Only in reverse.
Seriously? That's messed up dude. I think it's ironic that the anti-tank fans are the same ones that would rather the Lakers fail than the Blazers succeed. Makes me think the are more Lakers anti-fans than actual Blazers fans... Yet the say "just win baby".
