Ahhh ya I've never heard of Gimp so I didn't know. WordPress is free but I don't think I can do what I wanna do with just WordPress. The plugins/modules I'd need would cost money there anyway and I don't know if they'd be effective enough or not.
Don't confuse advise and disrespect Bones...I'd tell my own son the same thing..good luck...starting a business usually takes 2.5 times as long and 2.5 times as much money as you think you'll need...if you want to give back, you need to trade some time for that money and not look at it as acting as a cog, but achieving your goal. You ask for help, you can expect a response.
I was going to type a response to the same post, but I realized he's a young guy with a lot to learn about life.
How does getting a job for a short time to earn some money prevent you from doing all those things you want to do with your life? Sorry if you take this as more disrespect, but it really seems like you just don't want to work for it. Riverman literally just suggested getting a job for the summer and you went into a rant on not wanting to live your life as a cog in the system.. lol
I have an idea for the name of your site....."MySpace". What do you think? Ha, I"m just kidding, good luck to you!
I'm getting a very solid amount of money for going to college (I get VA college benefits). I just don't know what I'm doing in regards to where I'm living or where I'm going to college a month or so from now. It's hard to get hired when I might be moving a month from now, and I don't want to hold down a job for that short amount of time, as it doesn't look good to future employers. The potential move is also why I can't really risk a full $600 as I might have to pay for an apartment. I could definitely wait until I see what happens but I feel like if I continue to wait then I might get discouraged/not follow through with it. That's why I was simply seeing if anyone wanted to chip in, because I want to do it now. Literally just a shot in the dark, with me not having any problem if nobody donated.
You basically told me to go get a job and to "gofundmyself", as if suggesting that I was being lazy and that I'm not willing to fund myself when you didn't even understand the situation or the fact that I'm not relying on this for literally $600, but instead just as some money chipped in that might be able to help. And if I ask for help, it doesn't mean I'm asking to be told what to do. This is why I wasn't even comfortable posting this, because I knew somebody would misinterpret my motives, knowledge, or look at me as a young guy with a lot to learn, etc. It was literally: "Here's something I'm trying to do. If you're generous enough to help, it would be greatly appreciated, if not it's fine." not "Here, go fund me because I'm to lazy to fund myself."
relax Bones...you're getting into the problem...think solution and by no means do you need to heed my advice...it's not personal..you have an idea...great..go with it. You're title says Gofundme.....isn't that sort of telling me to fund you? My response ...gofundyourself..
I'm gonna start a gofundme to pay Katherine Schwarzenegger to do some tasteful nudes. Had no idea who she was until tonight. She is purrrrrrr deeeeeeeeeee. I bet I'd get over 600 if people know who she is.
I may have to try that myself. I've been trying to scrape together SlyPokerDogs $50.00 ban fee, but it's taking longer than I expected....
WordPress is certainly the most cost-effective option for you at this point...unless of course you receive enough donations on GoFundMe.com. Many of the themes nowadays come with built-in community features. Hell, even Blazersland.com has community features! Plugins on top of that will certainly give you everything you are looking for...and more! A lot of the plugins are free, but even the ones that aren't only require nominal fees. Now for the greatest challenge...building a community and retaining users! That's the single biggest obstacle you will encounter. You will also be hard-pressed charging users for something that they can do for free many other places. FWIW = my 2 cents
Thanks man! Yeah I'll probably go with WordPress first. I look forward to the challenge of building the community. It's building the site which is a bit daunting.
