Since I moved and have been looking for a full-time job, I've been working part-time at a golf course. I did find a full time, well paying job this last week (bless the lord) and decided that I will reward myself with a new set of irons. My favorite set that I had played with was about 5 years ago. A set of borrowed Titleist DCI 981's that I used for a summer. Do we have any golf pros in here that would be able to suggest something similar that may step my game up? Any suggestions on getting a smoking deal? I'm probably about a 15-20 handicap.

My plan is to keep my part time golf course job on the weekends and use that money to buy them, so I'm not trying to drop anything over like $500.

If you don't have any suggestions, feel free to say what your favorite golf course you've ever played on is.

No Trump golf course jokes please, even though I'm sure this will get derailed by that quickly.

Ask @HomerLovesKoolAid, he's Mr Golf. His dad was the pro at Oswego Lake Country Club.

I got a set of Ben Hogan irons. I've had them for 17 years now. Haven't had much play on them the last 5-10 years though. Coolest course I've played was a Nicklaus designed course in China.

Thanks for the response. Nicklaus is a legend. I need to play one of his courses.

Doesn't sound like we have many golfers here, I guess.

I have an old set of Mizuno blades. I don't think they make them anymore, since I paid a lot for them in 2002. But they're fantastic, and have let me do about what I want with the ball (I've been down to a 4 in the past, now I'm 8 and trying to get back into it after 5 years off...)

I've heard to stay away from Nikes, even though you could probably get a good deal on them right now.

Played the Disney World course. Just played Landmark course in Indio, CA where they played the Skins games from 1999-2002 from the tips. Never got to do Chambers Bay. Gold Mt. in Bremerton is (was?) pretty cheap and pretty good. Lots of good memories of the old Ft. Lewis base course. Pro Tip, if you're playing in France and don't realize the markers are in meters, you're gonna come up a club short every time until you do figure it out.

@Shaboid just scored some Pings on Craigslist for $150! Maybe 20 year old design but they're in excellent shape.

I couldn't list the different clubs in my bag because the poll only allowed for one "brand".

    1. I have a set of Mizuno T-Zoid Pro irons but mostly play my Ping ISI Nickel irons.

    2. As far as wedges, I have 4 Cleveland RTG wedges (48, 52,56, and 60 degrees) to put in my bag depending on the course I'm playing.

    3. Callaway driver

    4. Cobra 3 wood.

    5. Taylor Made Rescue hybrid

    6. Ping putter.

The poll was specifically regarding irons, but no worries. Always nice to see what someone is playing with.

What is the club that your most confident hitting?

Me personally, it's my Cleveland 5 wood (19.5 degree). I crush that SOB straight down the middle every time.

I have some Nike Slingshot irons. Great for a duffer like me.

I'm leaning towards a set of Callaways. My brother has a set of x22's that I swung and they feel nice. Those were from 2012 I think. Might be able to get some of the newer line for(e) a good price.

@BrianFromWA One of the pros at the shop suggested Mizuno. What line are yours? I haven't had good experience with Mizuno sporting goods in the past, but that was all baseball related. It might be worth hitting something on the range though if someone of your caliber suggests it.

Thats great, I have a set of loaded head Ben Hogan 660s. Love the clubs although they are very unforgiving. When I got serious about dialing in my game, I kept my woods at home and hit off the tee with my 1 or 2 iron.

after being able to play with those clubs, I could grab a Ping 2 and hit with my eyes closed.

Anybody know anything about Taylormade Rocketbladez? Those seem like they'd be in my price range and a solid club.

I think Callaway probably makes the best clubs.

I ended up picking up a set of Callaway X Hot Pro's 5-Approach for $80. They are $200+ online. Played 18 holes with them today and hit 'em well. Brand new grips. I think I got a good deal, but now I need a club to replace my 3 & 4 iron I think.

Yeah Erin McGehey (the other guy with Knoxville) is from Tualatin. I pumped his gas once when I worked at the Chevron in Sherwood when I was in highschool. He had a sweet Trans Am.
