I would be interested in that and river boat gambling but I would open it to highest bidder to all the Pacific NW casinos/tribes. I would like to see two competing casino interests in the Portland area, one to spur commercial and infrastructure growth and the other to attract more tourism. I would like to see the stadium be in the industrial NW section of town. Similar to where the original Vaughn street stadium was. The other I would like to see used as a catalyst to support the new convention center hotel and the long delayed development of the Rose Quarter. Without some sort of tourist attraction such as riverboat gambling the convention center hotel will struggle to succeed.

I would try a few small things at first to see if we start moving in a better direction before I tackled more drastic options.

1. Eliminate open campuses. You're at school, you need to stay at school.

2. Tie student attendance to public assistance. If your child is not going to school you will see your public assistance reduced.

Before you can look at teachers, programs, curriculum you have to look at how many hours kids at actually at their desks. You can have the best of everything but if the kids aren't there it does no good. Focus on hours in the classroom first.
 
I don't know much about it, but after researching it, it looks like 3 issues. 1) The State is suing Oracle Corp. for developing a bad Cover Oregon website and will recover some money, 2) Washington State Republican legislators balked over the Bridge and said, what's in it for us, and 3) the Girlfriend, for whose actions he isn't legally responsible.

He's a Dartmouth M.D., highly intelligent, and conservatives dislike him for his cool hair and moustache. Interesting maps.

The real issue splitting the Left and Right here is 4) his cool hair and moustache. We leftists are for him just because of that. The Oregonian is covering up this issue.
 
Secretary of State Kate Brown issued a statement Thursday morning:

Late Tuesday afternoon, I received a call from the Governor while I was in Washington, DC at a Secretaries of State conference. He asked me to come back to Oregon as soon as possible to speak with him in person and alone.

I got on a plane yesterday morning and arrived at 3:40 in the afternoon. I was escorted directly into a meeting with the Governor. It was a brief meeting. He asked me why I came back early from Washington, DC, which I found strange. I asked him what he wanted to talk about. The Governor told me he was not resigning, after which, he began a discussion about transition.

This is clearly a bizarre and unprecedented situation.

I informed the Governor that I am ready, and my staff will be ready, should he resign. Right now I am focused on doing my job for the people of Oregon.

The governor's office couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Lol I'd be pretty pissed if I were her... He made her come across the country and acted like a dumbass when she showed up. He is incompetent and should be removed from office, it's as simple as that. The only people that like him are so far left they can taste Stalin's tears.

He beat the Republican 53-47% in an election only 3 months ago. You must be saying that 53% are Stalinists and 47% are Hitlerites.

Senate President Peter Courtney and House Majority Leader Tina Kotek met with Gov. John Kitzhaber on Thursday morning and told him it was time to resign.

At a 1 p.m. press conference to discuss the meeting, Courtney said the discussion with Kitzhaber was difficult.

"He was upset," Courtney said. "He was defiant. He was struggling."

"This thing is evolving by the second."

Courtney said that he and Kotek have been trying to get security for Secretary of State Kate Brown, who would become governor if Kitzhaber were to step down.

Courtney said that he had left a meeting with the governor on Tuesday believing that Kitzhaber was planning to resign.

While he had been speaking earlier, Courtney received a note from the governor's staff. Courtney later said that the note read that Kitzhaber was trying to reach the secretary of state to "set up the transition

"I don't know what that means," Courtney said.

Courtney and Kotek had met with their fellow lawmakers earlier Thursday to let them know about the meeting with the governor.

As Sen. Rod Monroe, D-Portland, left that meeting, he said simply, "Sad day."

"I've known John Kitzhaber longer than anyone else in the building," he said. "This is a sad day for Oregon."

The news comes following a statement issued by Secretary of State Kate Brown on Thursday morning. Brown described how she had received a call from the governor on Tuesday afternoon asking her to return to Portland for a face-to-face meeting.

What am I missing? Other than the 47% pretending to be in the vast majority.

Republicans pulled this same shit on California Gov. Gray Davis only 7 months after he was reelected. Their replacement was Gov. Schwarzenegger, who couldn't speak English and had an affair.

This is the war fever power of the Oregonian. They did this to the Blazers 10-15 years ago.

Should have never a received third time. His time had come and gone. Someone new needed to be in there. By giving him the vote of confidence two additional times, they built him up to bigger than what he was. He knew it. He took advantage of it. Arrogance in epic proportions.
